Position SummaryThe Nurse Informaticist will have the expertise to bring together people, processes, data, and technology in the public health setting.
The Nurse Informaticist will be responsible for developing and implementing efficient and effective information systems that support the delivery of high-quality patient care.
In this role, you will be the liaison between the information technology team and various departments within the organization, providing training and support to ensure that all staff are equipped with the necessary skills to use the system effectively.
Optimize complex patient care workflow as it impacts information systems and department outcomes. Serves as a liaison between clinical care and information technology, supporting all staff members throughout the care continuum in the implementation, use and optimization of clinical technologies.
Recommend solutions to enhance functionality for nursing staff efficiency, patient care, regulatory requirements, quality, safety, outcomes and research.
Compile and lead training programs related to systems. Will also act as a Trainer / Super User to provide direct and indirect support to clinicians and support staff in the delivery of patient care and the use of an electronic health record (EHR) system.
Essential Functions* Identify and assess training needs within a clinical / department setting and focus on specific areas of knowledge or on-the-job capabilities needed for certain positions.
- Create, develop, organize, modify, conducts, and evaluate training programs, teaching materials, job aides and learning literature.
- Create monitored simulations and problem-solving scenarios.* Conduct orientation sessions, workshops, and lectures.* Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the requirement and quality measures related to MU, PQRS, and North Carolina State Incentive Programs.
- Communicate with federal and state agencies to investigate issues related to registration and attestation processes / audits.
- Maintain all documentation to track funds, quality programs progress, educational material, meeting minutes, and communications.
- Conduct workflow analysis determining the expectations, identifying gaps, and supporting recommendations on procedures and innovative solutions to improve the use of the clinical information systems and continually review new programs and changes.
- Support the identification, analysis, prioritization, design, testing, and implementation of improvements to existing clinical information systems.
- Participate in software and usability testing and Go-Live support for SuperUsers and provides direct and indirect support to clinicians and support staff in the delivery of patient care.
- Assist and create location-based SuperUsers at all clinical levels (provider, nurse, clinical assistant); this includes participating in continued end-user support and training.
- Redesign workflow, facilitating end-user application training, supporting go-live activities, monitoring end-user adoption of existing and new workflows implemented, and reports findings and trends.
- Create and maintain data dashboards to assist program leadership with data-based decision-making.* Participate in the development of necessary policies and procedures and will bring forward related issues that require resolution.
- Respond in cases of urgent and / or emergent events that require public health interventions. Employees may be trained for and assigned duties unrelated to their regular work;
work outside normal business hours and workdays and / or in a different work location may be required. Emergency events include, but are not limited to, communicable disease outbreaks, severe weather situations (e.
g. snow or ice storms, tornados, hurricanes), natural disasters (e.g. earthquakes), fire, or power outages, and acts of terrorism.
Minimum QualificationsExperience : Minimum of three years of clinical experience working with electronic medical records.
Education : Graduate from an accredited / approved nursing education program; a Master's in Informatics or similar Master's level degree.
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? : N / ALicenses and Certifications* Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nurse Examiners required (or obtain a compact license).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) by the American Heart Association that is valid for at least 90 days after hire.
