Description
The Maintenance & Utilities Engineer is responsible for the sustained performance of infrastructure through the execution of preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance.
This position provides consistent, reliable facility conditions by administering the mechanical integrity program, troubleshooting infrastructure issues, and leading equipment overhauls.
The Maintenance & Utilities Engineer will be assigned to all infrastructure and assets at the Evans City site. This includes reactor trains, pan dryers, solvent tank farms, solvent recovery systems, reactive gas compressors, liquid metal transfer systems, hot oil systems, steam boilers, cooling water towers, compressed air and nitrogen distribution, fire suppression, HVAC, and waste-water operations.
This position has 1 direct report, the Utility Technician, as well as supervision of contracted labor.
Key Responsibilities
Administrate the site mechanical integrity program by scheduling relevant inspections, overseeing inspection activity, and reviewing inspection results.
This will generally be a combination of ultrasonic thickness testing, eddy current testing, vibration testing, and tribology.
o Use inspection reports to assess remaining life and coordinate replacement timelines.
o Ensure compliance of contracted state pressure vessel certification program.
o Represent the mechanical integrity program during regulatory and customer audits.
Troubleshoot infrastructure and asset issues in collaboration with supervisors, engineers, technicians, and contractors.
As required, communicate with equipment vendors and service providers to resolve complex issues.
o Report on technical issues and resolutions, providing thorough documentation for engineering library.
o Lead structured root cause activities applying FMEA, RCM, and similar tools.
- Plan and execute site utility outages in coordination with Unit Supervisors, Maintenance Planner, Production Planning Specialist, and others.
- Assist Maintenance Planner and Maintenance Supervisor in managing queue of preventative, predictive, and reactive work orders.
Assign work to MRO Technicians, Utilities Technicians, and contracted labor. Review and document completed work orders.
o Engineer has ability to adjust scope and frequency of recurrent work to improve facility performance.
o Administrate Management of Change documentation for maintenance activities.
o Report on work order completion, maintenance capacity, and key reliability metrics in unit.
Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all maintenance personnel in the conduct of all maintenance activities.
o Train technicians, operators, and others in site services technologies to support reliable operation of facility infrastructure.
o Provide frequent feedback and written reviews for direct reports.
o Manage service contractors and equipment vendors to achieve best performance and cost.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years in an engineering or maintenance position.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Able to work in a diverse team environment - working closely with technicians, operators, contractors, vendors, engineers, and management to solve problems and address systemic issues related to mechanical equipment reliability.
- Possesses sound technical knowledge of refrigeration, steam supply, compressed air, fire suppression, and water treatment systems.
- Experience managing contracted services, specifically HVAC, fire suppression, and industrial piping repair.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Prefer :
- Prior experience in a PSM-covered batch chemical operation desired.
- Prior experience managing site utilities in a continuous operation desired.
- Prior experience using SAP Fiori as CMMS desired.
- Prior experience using DeltaV operating interface and OSI-Pi data historian desired.
- General knowledge of International Building Code and NFPA 70 desired.

B.S. in Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry
