THE POSITION

This position is variable hour or "on call". There will be a guaranteed full shift on Saturdays and at least one evening per week.

Other scheduled time will be assigned based on library's needs. This position will end on, or before, June 30, 2025.

The Library Assistant performs a variety of administrative tasks and independent duties in support of the library staff of West Slope Library.

They provide excellent internal and external customer service while creating a welcoming environment for a diverse community.

Our variable hour library assistants will primarily work directly with patrons on their accounts, checking items in and out, troubleshooting account problems, placing and processing holds, answering library questions via email, phone, or in person, using a cash register, and helping patrons connect with online tools or physical library items.

When they are not directly serving patrons, Library Assistants will be assigned to support our full-time teammates in the areas of :

  • Access Services : Supports patrons of all ages with materials movement, accounts, reports, and creating access to library services.
  • Adult Services : Supports our adult patrons with programs, materials, readers advisory, technology help, and information services.
  • Technical Services : Supports our library collections for all ages by assisting with receiving, processing, cataloging, and repairing new books, media, and games.
  • Youth Services : Supports our young library patrons from birth to age 18 and their families, caregivers, and teachers with programs, materials, readers advisory, and information services.

In this support role, you will take direction as needed and have ongoing assignments to support your dedicated service area.

Good communication, technology skills, ability to solve problems, and willingness to ask for help when needed are essential.

Candidates with experience using library software Polaris / Leap preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year of experience performing administrative or library support work; six (6) months of the experience must have been in a library.
