The Department of Pathology is currently seeking a full time Clinical Laboratory Assistant 2 to work in Miami, FL. The Clinical Laboratory Assistant 2 performs a variety of routine duties in assisting technical and professional personnel in clinical and research laboratories.

An employee in this position provides broad support for the laboratory operations.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Identifies, handles, and accessions patient samples requiring laboratory testing.

Transport’s specimens and communicates test results timely and accurately.

Maintains required laboratory files and logs system in a neat and accurate manner.

Performs specimen processing, such as centrifugation, aliquoting, and volume measurement. Maintains adequate inventory level as per protocol.

Participates in the performance improvement processes for the department.

Maintains assigned work area in a clean and orderly condition.

Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.

Responsible for generating patient reports and forwarding them to the proper departments / physicians.

Investigates and responds to all inquiries or problems related to referral testing; Answers all inquiries made by the Reference Lab and resolves problem associated with improper or inadequate samples.

Answers all inquiries made by physicians or patient unit personnel related to specimen requirements.

Maintains adequate inventory levels as per protocol and rotates previous stock when it applies.

Check packing slips verifies amount of items received, documents, and gives copy to supervisor / designee.

Serve as a lead / Back-up when Supervisor is unavailable.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education :

High School diploma or equivalent

Experience :

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Clinical Laboratory Assistant Lead Position Responsibilities

In charge of assigned department employee’s schedule.

In charge of assigned department daily operations.

In charge of resolving assigned department issues and problems.

Assist the laboratory supervisor, manager and / or director.

Department Specific Functions

Follow all Standard Operating Procedures to ensure safety and quality standards.

Receive study samples and complete relevant requisition forms.

Prepare specimens for testing and analysis.

Prepare shipment of study samples to reference laboratories.

Scan and / or data entry of specimen and patient information.

Perform minor instrumentation maintenance and maintain appropriate maintenance logs.

Troubleshoot any specimen related issues.

Replenish test bench supplies as needed.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Responsible for performing reagent and consumable inventory as directed.

Respond to telephone result inquires.

Complete record logs and other administrative duties as requested by supervisor.

Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends, as necessary.
