Job Description
The Director is responsible and accountable for directing professional nursing practice and the nursing care of patients within the Nursing Division of Lynchburg General Hospital (LGH).
It is expected that the Director leads in a way consistent with the Centra Just Cause and Values. The Director is responsible for safe and quality patient care being delivered in a service-oriented environment and ensures application of ANA Standards.
The Director is responsible and accountable for directing the clinical and financial activities at the hospital(s) and in conjunction with appropriate administrative and physician leadership, the ongoing development of programs and services of the hospital.
This position will support, collaborate and lead within the Centra Service Line structure to advance quality / safety, service and financial outcomes.
The Director is expected to create and sustain a culture of Magnet, including the monitoring of nurse sensitive indicators and hospital acquired injuries as part of performance improvement, evidence-based practice, and research.
The Director's practice reflects the American Nurses Association's Code of Ethics for Nurses, the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) leadership competencies, ANA Scope & Standards for Nurse Administrators, and the Nurse Practice Act of Virginia.
Responsibilities
Responsible for leadership, strategy, program development that advances quality and safety performance metrics to achieve organizational targets.
Responsible for collaboration to ensure staffing effectiveness across the organization.
Facilitates evidence-based care utilizing a multidisciplinary approach for patients.
Develops, implements, and evaluates strategies for addressing patient throughput for the health system.
Adopts and ensures adherence to policy and procedures that reflect evidence of effectiveness, safety, and positive patient outcomes.
Develops, promotes, and sustains a healthy work environment culture.
Works with managers / coordinators to promote staff engagement.
Actively works to improve manager / coordinator engagement.
Assists manager(s) / coordinator(s) in service recovery incidents and provides immediate follow-up of complaints and formal follow-up of grievances.
Coaches managers / coordinators to utilize performance improvement methodology to positively impact departmental goals.
Promotes and role models leadership within the organization as evidenced by active involvement in organizational wide committees / projects.
Acts as a key member in short and long-term strategic planning to improve quality care and maximize utilization of resources.
Serves as a resource for new technology adoption.
Ensures that units and departments meet requirements governing nursing practice of Joint Commission, the State Board of Nursing, the State Department of Health, and regulatory bodies.
Qualifications
Required Education : A Bachelors and Masters degree is required. If Bachelors is in Nursing, Masters can be within any related field.
If Bachelors is not in nursing, Masters must be in Nursing. A BSN prepared candidate may be hired with the expectation that he or she complete their Masters program within 3 years of hire.
Required Experience : 5 years of nursing experience. 3 years management experience in nursing or related field
Required Certifications and Licensures : Hold a current, active license as a registered nurse in Virginia or hold a current multistate licensure privilege as a registered nurse
Preferred Certifications and Licensures : American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Certification in Nursing Administration or specialty area
