Become an Energy Efficiency Engineer 1 at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll support SCE’s portfolio of energy efficiency (EE) programs.
These programs have multi-million-dollar budgets and incentivize to adopt energy efficient measures (e.g., heat pumps) or behaviors to deliver energy savings.
Within these programs, a set of EE projects, known as Deemed projects, require the creation of the measure package that optimizes the installation process and sets the energy savings, which is then used to calculate savings in all future projects involving that measure.
You will play a critical role as key support for senior engineers, completing key tasks such as revising measure package workpapers based on feedback, operationalizing requirements, and providing oversight over data and installation procedures.
You will have accountability and ownership over discretely defined deliverables and need strong cross-functional collaboration skills, proficient technical capabilities in workpaper writing, and a desire to learn business sense to operationalize requirements.

- Create new and update existing deemed measure packages with guidance from senior engineers for use in portfolio including :
- Defining technological measures, including characteristics such as installation process, type, and qualifying submissions, and operationalizing review of these measures’ validity
- Revising existing measure packages based on feedback from program managers and reviewers
- Managing data and oversight to ensure procedures are followed including :
- Verifying that the values entered into cost effectiveness tool (CET) are correct to support Solicitations
- Reviewing desktop reviews and site inspections to ensure high-quality and accurate understanding of QA / QC checklists and criteria
- Assisting with desktop review and site inspection training
The essentials
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or STEM field
- Engineering experience
The preferred
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) credential, P.E. License, or LEED Accredited Professional
- Working knowledge of investor-owned utility (IOU) led Energy Efficiency programs, policies, and methodologies
- Comprehension of calculating energy savings using Energy Simulation tools, including methods and assumptions used
- Experience working with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform complex assignments for a specific discipline, various installations, or services
- Experience in working with cross-functional project teams
- Experience with technical processes and standards of the CPUC
- Proficient in technical writing and workpaper writing
- Understanding of statewide electronic technical reference manual (eTRM) database and how measures are represented within eTRM
- Capable of operationalizing technical requirements to actions
You should know
This position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.
Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
- The primary work location for this position is Irwindale
- Position will require up to 5% traveling and being out in the field throughout the United States.
