JOB PURPOSE : The ADSD Driver will drive a wheelchair-accessible vehicle and provide door-to-door service while transporting clients with mobility limitations.

The Driver will ensure clients' safe and timely transportation while providing a comfortable service from the origin of the trip until reaching the final destination.

Additionally, while on duty, the Driver will act as an Access to Healthcare Network (AHN) representative and relay information about other programs to clients.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bilingual preferred (English / Spanish).
  • Must have a valid Nevada Driver's license and a five-year DMV Record.
  • Required to pass a drug test upon hire and may be subject to random drug testing throughout employment in a driver position.
  • Participate and succeed in driver training, Safety, and wheelchair securement course established by AHN.
  • Complies with State of Nevada traffic laws.
  • Required to pass a background check through the State of Nevada.
  • Gain a clear and basic knowledge of Access to Healthcare Network administrative duties, services, and systems.
  • Attend monthly Transportation and interdepartmental meetings, as requested.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES :

  • Will transport seniors and people with disabilities throughout Washoe County, Carson County, Douglas County, Story County and Lyon County areas to physician appointments and to pick up medical supplies, prescriptions, and groceries at previously designated zones and locations.
  • Run route as scheduled by the dispatcher.
  • Greet clients and providers in a friendly, compassionate, and professional manner and create a pleasant environment for clients during their rides.
  • Gives mobility assistance and transports clients in a wheelchair up or down ramps and ensures clients and wheelchair or mobility equipment have been safely secured.
  • Will provide door-to-door service bringing clients to their residences (home or nursing facility) and the exact location of the medical appointment.
  • Assist with personal belongings and provide arm assistance without hesitation.
  • Keeps dispatch updated on status throughout the day while transporting clients and while waiting for the next assignment.
  • Conducts a vehicle pre-trip inspection before leaving the base to ensure the vehicle is road ready and all necessary equipment to perform the job is accounted for.
  • Conducts a vehicle post-trip inspection upon return to base to ensure no clients or client possessions remain on the vehicle and to document the vehicle's condition.
  • Maintains client records and trip activity via smartphone technology.
  • Maintains cleanliness of company vehicles throughout the day.
  • Adheres to AHN Driver operational and safety policies and procedures detailed in employee orientation and training and reports any potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Acts as a liaison between clients and identify other AHN / Community programs for which clients may be eligible.
  • Maintains a professional appearance through compliance with uniform policy and personal hygiene habits.
  • Observe, receive, and obtain information from customers, dispatchers, or supervisory personnel to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment and relay passenger needs to the appropriate AHN program.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving by analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution during time-sensitive circumstances.
  • Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic form.
  • Identify and report any departmental issues to the Transportation Manager.
  • Extreme patience.
  • Is consistently at work on time and arrives at appointments and meetings on time.
  • Be able to manage one's own time and the time of others efficiently.
  • Be able to practice active listening (giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand, and asking appropriate questions) in a high-traffic environment.
  • Be able to learn actively.
  • Be able to operate at the pace of business to meet deadlines, plan and prioritize, and remain calm when dealing with demanding customers.
  • Quick and accurate data entry.
  • Excellent customer service skills and responds promptly to customer needs respectfully.
  • Able to manage difficult or emotional situations.
  • Strong, professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility; Ability to adapt to changing work environment and duties. Each department selects the hours of work schedule for the department staff based on the department's needs.

This schedule may change at any time according to the department's needs.

EDUCATION MINIMUM :

Minimum Education : High School Diploma

EXPERIENCE MINIMUM :

  • Mandatory participation in and passed the PASS driver training, ADA sensitivity, safety, and wheelchair securement course established by AHN and the Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA).
  • Minimum five years driving a private vehicle, commercial vehicle experience - preferred.
  • Minimum one year computer experience, including Microsoft operating systems and database input.
  • The ability to use a smartphone - preferred.
  • Knowledge of public health programs - preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Northern Nevada senior and disabled community - preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT :

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet, humid, dry, hot, and cold conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Be able to stand between 1 - 2 hours per day.
  • Be able to sit in a vehicle for up to 6 - 8 hours daily.
  • Be able to withstand hand / wrist deviation and repetition.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with fair consistency.
  • Be able to bend, walk, sit, squat, reach, twist, push, pull, grasp, kneel, crawl, and climb with a fair consistency.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust and focus.
