The Asset Manager is a hands-on, detail-orientated and strategic role focused on Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) management, fixed asset management and inventory accuracy.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the receiving, salvage, categorization, tracking, and reporting of assets, as well as managing the movement and coordination of fixed assets and demo units.
The role requires strong organizational skills, process-driven thinking, and a focus on continuous improvement to ensure the efficient and compliant management of company assets and inventory.
This position will split their onsite time between Carlsbad and Sorrento Valley (at least 1 day at each location per week).
May require periodic travel to other locations 4 times a year.
Essential Functions

RMA Management :
- Oversee the entire RMA process, including receiving, categorization, and processing of returned goods.
- Manage salvage and recovery efforts, working with vendors on credits or replacements for warranty items and collaborating with engineering for refurbished units.
- Track and report on asset recovery, including disposition and financial impact.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to streamline RMA workflows and improve efficiency.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all RMA transactions.
Demo and Fixed Asset Management :
- Coordinate the movement and tracking of demo and fixed assets across multiple locations, ensuring proper documentation and tagging for inventory accuracy.
- Manage asset lifecycle activities, including transfers, disposals, repairs, and depreciation reporting.
- Provide regular reports on asset status, lifecycle, and performance.
Inventory Accounting :
- Reconcile physical inventory counts with system records, ensuring accurate accounting and valuation of assets.
- Collaborate with the finance team to ensure compliance with accounting standards and accurate asset valuation.
- Conduct regular audits and implement continuous improvements to inventory management processes.
General Asset Management :
- Develop, implement, and maintain processes to ensure accurate asset management, including timely inventory transactions in receiving, storage, shipping, and work orders.
- Maintain and develop inventory tracking reports, ensuring visibility of asset status and movement.
- Manage and reconcile inventory counts, investigate discrepancies, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Ensure compliance with security and loss prevention policies and procedures.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives with a Lean approach to optimize asset management practices.
Requirements
Required Education, Experience & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or related field; or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years of inventory / asset management experience
- Strong knowledge of RMA processes and asset recovery
- Experience with inventory management systems and accounting principles
- Deep and broad understanding of inventory control strategy and systems
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and collaborate with different departments.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Access
- Experience with ERP Inventory Control Systems
- Familiar with problem solving methodologies
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience establishing and modifying inventory control procedures and processes
- Ability to learn technical concepts by reading work instructions and standard operating procedures, and completing on-the-job training
Preferred Education, Experience & Skills
- APICS or ISM Certification
- Experience with Salesforce and / or Netsuite
- Six Sigma or Continues Improvement experience
- Experience in MRP (Manufacturing resource planning)
