Lane County’s Engineering & Construction Services (ECS) Division currently has one opening on our Design Engineering Team.
Successful applicant will design capital improvement projects that may also include working with municipal partners and private consultants.
We actively partner with the US Forest Service, Federal Highway Administration, Oregon Department of Transportation, multiple watershed councils and local cities.
NOTE : This position does NOT require a Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Engineering Intern license, but would include a 5% pay differential if you have an Oregon registered P.
E. or a 3% pay differential if you have an Engineering Intern (EIT, EI, ET) registration.
Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) : Our CIP includes years of exciting opportunities to manage and design projects that include major roadways and intersections, fish passage culverts using the latest stream simulation techniques, stormwater and water quality facilities, drinking water and wastewater projects, ADA design, as well as environmental feasibility assessments, specifications, plans designed with Civil3D, and detailed cost estimates.
The Design Team also provides engineering design services for small municipalities in the area that have projects beyond their capacity or capability.
The successful applicants will also bring excellent communication skills for building relationships with the public, as well as teamwork between Transportation Planning, Design, Survey, Construction, Traffic Operations, Road & Bridge Maintenance and Land Management.
- Engineering - Responsibilities will generally include; conducting special studies, analyses and evaluation of transportation issues and quality assurance programs;
- reviewing plans and permit issues for development; designing and inspecting infrastructure enhancements; designing, inspecting and implementing water quality and other natural resource related projects;
reviewing engineering plans and specifications; coordinating services with other agencies and departments; and overseeing assigned engineering projects.

About the Division
The Engineering & Construction Services Division responsibilities include planning, designing and constructing safe and efficient transportation systems for Lane County.
The Division also provides high quality and comprehensive engineering and construction services to other County Departments and external public agency clients that manage, maintain, and plan public improvement programs and projects.
Our mission is to provide these important services for the benefit of citizens, businesses, industries, and visitors to Lane County.
Schedule : Monday - Friday, 7 : 00 a.m. - 3 : 30 p.m. with a 1 / 2 hour lunch. (Staff regularly adjusts this schedule).
This is an ADMIN-PRO represented position*
Training :
Bachelor’s degree in a field related to area of assignment such as Civil Engineering, Surveying, Environmental Science, Community & Regional Planning, Geography, Construction Services, GIS, etc.
and sufficient experience as necessitated by the competency level of the position.
Experience :
- Entry / Contributing Level : 0-2 years of professional experience; entry level for incumbents with Bachelor's degree.
- Specialized knowledge specific to area of assignment may be required.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing Requirements :
Valid Oregon Driver's License
