A Day in the Life of a CRMG Respiratory Therapist :
Responsible for evaluating, treating, and caring for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders under the direction of a physician

Here Is What You Will Be Doing :
- Performs all assigned therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as ordered by a physician including but not limited to basic respiratory therapy and oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry monitoring to determine oxygen titration needs and arranging for home oxygen therapy, and patient assessment.
- Verifies physician order for therapy to assure that the order is complete and appropriate. Clarifies any orders that are not complete or are questionable.
Documents appropriately and completely in patient’s record and department records according to policy.
- Assists in cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts and / or other emergencies that utilize respiratory care procedures for patient care.
- Performs Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) mask fittings and / or adjustments for patients who may be getting ready to experience PAP for the first time or are having difficulty with their current mask.
Assists patients that are experiencing issues / concerns with PAP by giving them advice and troubleshooting ideas.
- Rooms patients during sleep clinic by getting their vitals (BP, HR, SpO2, weight). Records their vitals, medications and excessive daytime sleepiness scale in the computer.
- Performs Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT) to include spirometry, complete PFT, and bronchial challenge test. Maintains and troubleshoots pulmonary testing equipment to ensure quality test results.
- Performs Six Minute Walk Tests and appropriately documents results.
- Provides patient education regarding procedures, tests, medications, disease process, and medical equipment usage.
- Under the direction of the physician, communicates test results and treatment plans to patients over the phone or in person.
- Assist physician(s) in clinic with minor procedures and patient care.
Desired Skills :
- Knowledge of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures and tests, equipment, patient assessment, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Knowledge of techniques for teaching patients how to care for themselves
- Skill in applying clinical practice guidelines, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, respiratory health promotion, and disease prevention
- Skill in medical record keeping measuring patient progress
- Skill in safe use of respiratory therapy equipment including safety precautions and regular maintenance and testing of equipment to minimize the risk of injury
- Ability to teach patients and families about using respiratory therapy equipment and techniques at home and in other nonclinical locales
- Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians and other clinicians
- Ability to deal compassionately with anxious patients who may have life-threatening illnesses
Here Is What You Will Need :
- Associate’s degree or higher in Respiratory Therapy
- Wyoming Respiratory Therapy License
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Cheyenne Regional AHA RQI within 14 calendar days of start date
Nice to Have :
One (1) or more years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
