Key Responsibilities
Identifies residents with delinquent accounts, analyzes and updates lists, producing delinquency notices, assessing late fees, revoking parking when required.
Places holds on student records when necessary. Compiles data and provides information to Assistant Director for Technology Services (ADTS) for basic setup of StarRez database.
Reviews and finalizes the setup.
Prepares all paperwork to coordinate unlawful detainer process through CSU Chancellor’s office legal counsel and University Police Department as appropriate.
Works within the parameters of University and state laws and regulations to coordinate service of 3-day notices and unlawful detainers for non-payment, non-enrollment and failure to perform conditions.
- Meets regularly virtually and in person at on and off campus housing locations with residents to provide financial advising and counseling during regular business hours and some after hours.
- Provides financial aid counseling to ensure resident meets federal and state financial aid guidelines, California Educational Code Title V relating to eligibility to reside on campus, and other academic issues that may affect the resident’s ability to continue residing on campus.
- Provides work lead direction for the Resident Accounts Coordinator including training, assigning tasks and providing day-to-day work lead supervision
- Reviews financial aid information provided by the Financial Aid Department to coordinate payment plan information with financial aid disbursement dates.
- Advises residents on academic hold policy and process to clear this hold.
- Sets up payment plans that consider the various grants and loan disbursement dates.
- Researches charge and payment adjustments and requests Reports and Billing Coordinator or Accountant to make appropriate adjustment
- Confirms refunds due and generates computerized refund requests.
- Oversees coordination of financial services for residents. Administers billing, refunds, certification, and deferment programs for students.
- Conducts year-end analysis of accounts and recommends residents to be denied future use of housing facilities due to payment history.
- May oversee and coordinate student assistants.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to review financial documents and data for accuracy, validity, completeness and adherence to standards
- Ability to clearly answer questions and explain procedures and policies to students and the public in an efficient and courteous manner, apply judgment, discretion and initiative in performing a variety of tasks.
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
- Working knowledge and understanding of Federal and State Financial Aid processes that affect Housing residents.
- Proven ability to manage competing projects, tasks, and deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications for students, staff, and external agencies.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and apply policies and regulations in specific situations to analyze and solve organizational and operating problems related to student and residential community housing needs.
- Knowledge of how a database interacts with business practices, and financial operations of a typical business.
- Ability to work with database systems to pull fields or records for reporting or transferring data to other databases.
- Ability to compose and appropriately format correspondence and business reports using appropriate English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- Ability to exercise appropriate judgment and perform duties and responsibilities in the absence of close supervision.
- Knowledge of computer applications : MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Internet tools.
- Ability to display a strong sense of commitment to customer needs, and possess excellent customer service and public relations skills.
- Ability to communicate with constituents in a professional and respectful manner.
Required Qualifications
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities and equivalent.
- Four years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience which has provided the above knowledge and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related field
- Experience maintaining accounts receivables.
- Experience coordinating delinquency processes.
- Experience providing financial advising or counseling.
- Experience working in a residential or property management environment.
- Experience working in an educational environment.

Classification : Accounting Technician III
Anticipated Hiring Range : $4,055 / month - $4,615 / month
CSU Salary Range : $3,968 / month - $6,964 / month
