The Campus Life Services (CLS) Director of Communications will play a pivotal role in developing, shaping and executing CLS's communications strategy for physical and digital media to effectively convey its mission, promote CLS stories and highlight CLS initiatives to diverse audiences.

The Director will lead and provide oversight to the Documents and Media team and will be responsible for implementing comprehensive communications plans for physical and digital media and overseeing the creation of engaging multimedia content to enhance CLS's visibility and reputation.

The CLS Director of Communications will manage the production of multimedia content, including videos, print, social media and infographics, to effectively communicate with diverse UCSF audiences.

The Director also will collaborate with the FAS Director of Communications and Engagement to execute within CLS the overall Finance and Administration vision and ensure alignment with messaging.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.

For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $124,400 - $291,600 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

Campus Life Services consists of 11 departments that form an organization within Finance and Administration (FAS). These diverse departments are Arts & Events, Childcare, Conference Services, Documents & Media, Facilities & Utilities, Fitness & Recreation, Housing, Marketing by CLS, Retail Services, Sustainability, and Transportation.

With over 800 team members and budgets totaling over $200 million, Campus Life Services delivers best in class auxiliary and facilities services to run the UCSF enterprise.

The scope and challenges of the division are complex and robust given the variety of services managed and the expectation that all 11 organizations are responsive to student, faculty, staff, and patient needs.

A high degree of innovation and customer service and program excellence is always the overarching aim.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 10 years relevant progressive experience
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of technical applications including design concepts, various media and mediums, applications, etc.

to effectively manage / supervise professional technical staff

  • Thorough knowledge of the location, including its mission, vision, goals, policies, and infrastructure; strong knowledge of current affairs and issues in higher education and / or health sciences
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and the most appropriate and effective applications
  • Excellent skills to create, develop and implement long and short term strategic communications plans
  • Excellent skills to advise and consult management on all aspects of communications, ranging from developing effective communication strategies to appropriately responding to inquiries regarding sensitive or complex issues or information
  • Excellent management skills to select, train, manage, motivate and evaluate professional communications staff to produce high quality work;

skill to take corrective action as required

  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management and problem recognition, avoidance and resolution skills
  • Excellent skills to ensure production of high-quality work within budget and time constraints

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent knowledge and skills in financial and personnel administration and management
  • UC, UCSF, and / or Campus Life Services knowledge and experience; knowledge of UCSF organizational and communications structure
  • Experience developing communications campaigns in a university or other complex environment
