Job Overview :
Performs all duties related to the pre-registration, registration, and financial clearance processes for all patients (emergency, ambulatory and in-patients).
Responsible for collecting proper data to insure hospital bills will be paid by a third- party payer or the patient. Provides front-door customer service to patients and orients patients to the registration / admission process.
Performs scheduling functions of new and follow-up patients and discharges patients accordingly. Responsible for identifying, collecting and reconciling patient liabilities on a routine basis.
Corresponds with Supervisor / Manager on operational issues as required.
Qualifications : Required :
Required :
- Minimum 2-3 years in Admitting / Registration or hospital billing experience, or working knowledge of registration, insurance, and billing requirements.
- Possesses background in medical terminology and experience with medical insurance.
- Equivalent relative experience dealing with the public is required.
- High School diploma
Preferred :
- College level preferred.
- Candidates with College level education and proven strong customer service skills without specific registration skill or working knowledge of medical terminology and insurance will be considered

Essential Functions :
- Answers the telephone courteously and in a timely manner
- Demonstrates and maintains the current knowledge of Insurance Companies, State and Federal Healthcare Regulations and requirements
- Demonstrates the ability to enter patient’s demographic / insurance information in the computer system(SMS) accurately and timely
- Demonstrates the ability to verify patient’s insurance benefits and obtains the appropriate pre certs / authorizations, and / or referrals as required by the insurance carrier
- Ensures that the patient or responsible party signs all appropriate documents (i.e. consent forms, bill of rights, etc.
scans them into RASi, and places them in the chart accurately and timely
- Greets and assists patients / visitors in a courteous and timely manner

- Obtains Advance Medial Directives if available and scans them into RAS accurately.
