Description

The new Clemson University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position to lead the development and implementation of the diagnostic imaging content within the DVM curriculum.

The primary responsibilities of this position are focused on teaching and service with substantial opportunities for research and scholarship if desired.

Academic rank would be commensurate with experience.

The Diagnostic Imaging faculty will play a vital role in developing and delivering the first year of the curriculum for the next generation of veterinarians for the state of SC.

The Healthy Animal and Diseased Animal course series is a team-taught course focusing on the normal anatomy, physiology and diagnostic imaging of domestic animal species.

Utilizing the classroom, anatomy lab, live animals, simulation models and teaching technology, this faculty member will provide students with an applied and clinical science-based education in these areas, preparing them to progress into more advanced coursework.

Working collaboratively with other faculty and staff, the content in this course series will align with the coursework occurring simultaneously in the Clinical Skills and Professional Development courses in the first year of the DVM program.

This faculty member will help ensure students achieve proficiency in all necessary pre-clinical competencies.

Overview of Clemson and the CVM

Located in South Carolina's beautiful and fast-growing upstate, Clemson University is the land-grant university of South Carolina and ranks among the country's top 50 national public universities in the U.

The CVM is currently seeking accreditation by the American Veterinary Medicine Association to offer the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree to approximately 80 students per cohort starting in 2026 (pending approval).

The CVM plans to utilize a partial distributive model of education for students' fourth year clinical experience. Its brand-new state of the art main campus will reside in Pendleton, SC, near the T.

Ed Garrison Arena, will house research and teaching labs, and utilize both ambulatory services as well as teaching sites at the Clemson University Equine Center, Lamaster Dairy Cattle Center, and other locations for education in the field.

Overview of the Position

Reporting to the Department Chair and working closely with the Foundational Sciences Lead and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, the Clinical Diagnostic Imagine Faculty will :

  • Create and deliver the veterinary diagnostic imaging curriculum as delivered in the team-taught systems-based course series (Healthy Animal, and Diseased Animal), and the Clinical Diagnostic Imaging and Clinical Skills courses
  • Aid in development of the Clemson CVM imaging policies and procedures
  • Develop assessment strategies in alignment with the overall competency-based curriculum
  • Collaborate with other faculty members to ensure integration of knowledge and skills across years and courses
  • Actively and effectively engage in student-centered instruction, coaching, and mentorship
  • Aid in procurement of state-of-the-art teaching equipment related to diagnostic imaging
  • Serve on CVM and campus committees as appointed or elected

Additionally, the faculty member must have the ability to :

  • Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, possess exemplary verbal and written communication skills, with exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and function independently with limited supervision and guidance.
  • Work in partnership with faculty and staff across multiple disciplines and functions across the college and university.
  • Participate in research and scholarship initiatives designed to improve educational and professional outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the core values of Clemson University and specifically to community, engagement, belonging and accessibility (CEBA) .

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent
  • 3-plus years of relevant experience in the field of veterinary diagnostic imaging

Preferred qualifications include experience in :

  • Diplomate status or residency training with the American College of Veterinary Radiology
  • PhD in a relevant field
  • Experience and a history of excellence in teaching applied or clinical sciences
