Job Description Summary
HFC presents an opportunity for a Temporary Student Academic Mentor English & Math, College Bound - The Hawk Advantage Summer Program
Provide in-person and / or synchronous online assistance to Lead Instructors and coaching to prepare students for their college level experience and coursework.
Work with incoming first-year college students of various ages. Provide the best experience possible for all students through facilitation of student activities.
Work within a team and directly with a group of approximately 40 students. Team members must be able to interact with, supervise, and ensure the safety of students.
Provide guidance and serve as educators, role models and chaperones. Plan and lead student team building activities. Have advanced knowledge in one of the following academic areas.
Math
- Evidence and Support
- SQ3R (survey, question, read, recite, review)
- Purposeful Writing versus Reporting
- Genre and Purpose
- Interconnectivity, Inferences, and Artifacts
Core Competencies and Qualifications
EDUCATION : Successful completion of at least 45 credits of college-level coursework with a GPA of or higher.
EXPERIENCE : Knowledge and experience with the relevant subject matter demonstrated through experience as a Teacher Assistant, subject matter tutor, or successful completion of applicable college level courses with a Ability to successfully operate online platforms such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom.
Knowledge and experience mentoring students. Ability to successfully operate online platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES : Ability to form quick connections with students. Experience providing instruction. Ability to exercise good judgment and solve problems.
Maturity and professionalism. Excellent customer service skills. Strong leadership skills. Ability to set expectations for and enforce appropriate student behavior.
