JOB SUMMARY :

Sangamo Therapeutics is seeking an experienced Associate Director of Accounting to join its accounting team. Responsibilities include effectively managing equity, stock administration, payroll, AP functions, and ensuring integrity of financial data.

In addition to daily and monthly responsibilities, the Associate Director will assist with setting and maintaining accounting policies for the assigned areas, as well as creating and executing new processes to support efficiencies.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, a team player with a strong working knowledge of the assigned systems and processes, internal controls, US GAAP, and SOX regulations, and does this while maintaining a high level of integrity.

The candidate should be comfortable working collaboratively, in teams and independently, and excel when faced with new challenges and problems to solve.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Equity / Stock Administration :

  • Maintain integrity of data in the stock administration database (Equity Edge Online), working across departments and with executive management
  • ESPP participation (enrollment / changes / withdrawals / settlement) RSU and Stock Option programs
  • New grant process, documentation and compliance requirements
  • Maintain share registers and reconcile with legal, Human Resources, and international activities
  • Manage transfer agent and DWAC process
  • Develop and maintain communications and education materials for the company
  • Day to day responsibilities include trading, reporting, and coordinating with other functional teams and external parties
  • Review quarterly control steps, in support of stock-based compensation accounting entries
  • Monitor the compliance of equity transactions with the documented terms, ensuring wires are prepared, legal documents are received, and work with external brokers

Payroll :

  • Work with payroll manager to ensure taxes are properly withheld for exercises and W-2s are accurate
  • Review the tasks completed by the payroll manager and ensure timely payroll processing, compliance and reporting.
  • Assist with benefits design and facilitate integration into payroll operations and reporting.
  • Oversee maintenance of an accurate, efficient (HRIS - Payroll System-ADP) in coordination with the HR and Finance departments.

Accounts Payable :

Review the tasks completed by the AP manager and ensure timely AP processing, compliance and reporting

General :

  • Oversite of the work performed by external stock administrators, payroll manager and the AP manager.
  • Compliance with all reporting requirements, including Section 16, Proxy, and 10-K. Prepare applicable tables and provide appropriate information for use in the annual proxy statement.

Review annual reports and filings as needed.

  • Provide external reporting and tax support for quarterly reporting requirements.
  • Generate recurring reporting for multiple internal and external corporate partners (HR, Payroll, Finance, Accounting, etc.
  • and respond to ad-hoc data requests on a timely basis.
  • Own SOX procedures related to the equity, stock administration, payroll, and AP processes
  • Support and assist with quarterly reviews and annual audits or any ad hoc projects, as directed by management
  • Manage assigned projects and collaborate with cross-functional team members in delivering high quality, reliable, decision ready information to business partners
  • Ensure that accounting documentation is compiled and maintained in support of relevant legal, regulatory, and audit requirements.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS :

  • BS / BA degree in accounting, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of equity, stock administration, payroll, and AP experience, including managing and leading teams.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and SOX requirements for the assigned area and experience managing external and internal audit activities
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, as well as analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Equity Edge Online, ADP, Oracle Fusion, and Jaggaer experience preferred, and advanced Excel skills required
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask in managing tight deadlines with follow-through and minimal supervision
  • Possess a strong work ethic and ability to be adaptable to changing responsibilities and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Team-oriented, collaborative, flexible and willing to adapt to changing needs and timelines
  • Public company experience preferred

Pay Range

The anticipated salary range is for candidates who will work in our San Francisco Bay Area work locations. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include, but are not limited to, the type and length of experience with the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc.

This salary range may not apply to remote positions that work in other states.
