JOB PURPOSE :
The Senior Field Placement Supervisor is responsible for securing field placement opportunities, supervision and observation for students enrolled in practicums I, II, and III, as well as Student Teachers in their final semester of Navajo Technical University's Early Childhood and Multicultural Education (ECME) Program across all NTU instructional sites.
This position also requires overseeing high-quality field placement collaboration and communication with ECME academic support staff and faculty throughout the academic year to implement comprehensive supervision and observations of students to ensure excellence in their state teacher certification path way.
Successful applicant will have extensive expertise in theory and pedagogy of Early Childhood Multicultural Education, understand and support the importance of integrating indigenous culture and language into the ECE field, demonstrated skills in oral and written communication, developing community partnerships, leading diverse individuals and teams to shared visions, and building and maintaining collaborative partnerships with early childhood programs across the Navajo Nation and Zuni-Pueblo.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Reports to the ECME Director
- Lead the planning and implementation of a state teacher certification preparation camp in collaboration with ECME academic support staff and faculty throughout the academic year.
- Utilize indigenous knowledge systems to integrate indigenous culture and language into the ECME curriculum to promote culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Serve as a liaison between partnering schools and NTU's ECME program; this includes communication with principals, mentoring teachers, teacher candidates, and the ECME Program Director.
- Coordinate pre-placement with established early childhood partners, plan and schedule orientations for each cohort of teacher candidates each semester.
- Assist with the development of the ECME Student Practicum / Student Teacher Handbooks.
- Establish effective communication with mentoring teachers to provide information on NTU's program, responsibilities, and expectations with regard to the relationships with the student teacher and field supervisor.
- Observe, assess, and evaluate teacher candidates in classroom settings with regard to teaching, planning, classroom management, and professionalism.
- Review and provide feedback for student lesson plans and portfolios. Provide instructional suggestions and resources as needed.
- Evaluate each candidate's performance and provide constructive oral and written feedback 6-7 times per semester over the course of sixteen (16) weeks.
- Ensure that all students are adhering to the ECME Student Teaching Handbook.
- Document and keep on file practicum / student teacher's skill development over the course of 16 weeks based on course competencies in alignment with the instructional syllabus.
- Provide written observations and evaluations of each practicum student / student teacher and file in student folders in a timely manner.
- Establish a transitioning plan for students to eliminate financial stress and perceived barriers.
- Communicate regularly with the ECME Program and participating mentor teachers regarding candidate's performance and progress.
- Document thoroughly any infractions of school policy or professionalism, as well as unsatisfactory progress in classroom instruction and management.
- Requires traveling to different school sites.
- Attend monthly department ECME meetings.
SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES :
Supervise student candidates in practicum and student teaching settings
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS :
- Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- A deep understanding of the importance of integration indigenous culture and language in early childhood education.
- Ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives that support student success and high quality EC programming.
- Minimum of five years of successful experience in Early Childhood programs and supervising early childhood professionals in diverse fields.
- Cultural competence in Navajo, A : shiwi, and / or another indigenous tribe or community.
- Successful experience in working with MOUs and external partnerships.
- Successful experience working with a variety of public, private, non-profit, grassroots organizations and tribal entities.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Extensive knowledge of Pre-K to 3rd grade development programs, Part B : Special education programs, and elementary education.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS :
- Currently hold a state teaching licensure, and / or a Level III Instructional Leader State of NM and / or AZ state teaching licensure.
- Master's in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- Oral and written skills in Navajo and / or A : shiwi.
- Cultural competence in Navajo, A : shiwi, and / or another indigenous tribe or community.
- Experience working or living in an indigenous community.
- Extensive knowledge of Pre-K to 3rd grade development programs, Part B : Special education programs, and elementary education.

- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate the ability to build team morale to ensure effective communication and consistency in in-person and virtual meetings.
- Ability to coordinate quarterly observation visits between student candidates and mentor teachers.

- Ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing, in varied settings and with students, mentor teachers, and building administrators.

- Critical and analytical thinker who can approach problem solving creatively and manage complex issues, while considering the needs of varied stakeholders.
- Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work, communicate with supervisor about work challenges, meet critical deadlines, and have great attention to detail with excellent follow through.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access).
- Proficiency using databases.

- Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of tribal colleges and universities.
- Have knowledge of how tribal, state and federal policies interact.
- Ability to aggregate and analyze data to make informed decisions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for prolonged periods, walk and stand.
- Ability to drive for 4-5 hours as needed to instructional sites.
- The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
- Work is generally performed in a field placement setting and remote, with occasional in-person on campus meetings.
- Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common.
- Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
