This position is part of the KDS-BC Collaboration. The Associate director provides administrative oversight primarily when the Executive Director is off campus or off.
The Associate Director is responsible for maintaining program integrity, facilitating growth, managing daily operations including direct supervision and oversight of all KDS staff.
At this time, this position is an extension of the individual’s current job role and responsibilities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises in collaboration with the Executive director all staff including formal evaluations.
- Evaluation duties are distributed across administrative staff members.
- Includes incidental feedback (constructive & corrective) during the course of the day.
- Assists in assigning daily coverage.
- Assigned to the rotation of the AOC schedule (Administrator on Call) in accordance with DESE regulations.
- Is the primary person to ensure the proper management of the learning and work environment each day when the Executive Director is off-campus or out.
- Minimum of 2 full days per week
- Additional days as needed
- Compliance with current Massachusetts DESE regulations.
- Assists the Executive director in ensuring compliance with licensing requirements.
- Works with the IEP Coordinator to assist in addressing issues with IEP implementation and compliance.
- Assists in staff recruitment.
- Assists Executive Director in maintain the mentoring / induction program
- Assists in facilitating the PAC in collaboration with Social Worker
- Attends team meetings as appropriate.
- Attends IEP meetings as appropriate and has the authority to function as the decision maker.
- Collaborates on policy development.
- Works with the curriculum coordinator to ensure proper implementation of the program curriculum and addresses any supply needs.
- Works with the educational trainer to oversee orientation of new staff, ongoing training needs and PD supports.
- Works with the assistive technology coordinator to ensure proper implementation of supports and availability of technology.
- Monitors student engagement using current data systems.
- Attends DESE Special Education Meetings.
- Attends MAAPS meetings
- Assist with the NSLP (as needed based on KDS participation)
- Assists the program social worker in conducting student screenings as well as in the admissions process.
- Assists in coordinating student field trips and community experiences including monitoring proper 7 D license for drivers (ongoing training & renewal with the DMV).
- Attends / covers for the Executive Director at hospital meetings as needed such as but not limited to; OIC, Quality & Safety, EOC, Data & Privacy and Diversity.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to provide constructive direct feedback to staff informally throughout the day and formally through the ongoing DESE evaluation process.
- Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple systems at the program and classroom level.
- Understanding of the CHAMP and ELAR Massachusetts DESE systems.
- Understanding of DESE regulations and effective implementation and monitoring based on current DESE Private School Monitoring (OASES) requirements.
- Understanding of teacher licensure process, mentoring and induction
- Understanding of IEP and monitoring requirements and team facilitation.
- Experience with conflict resolution.
- Understanding of the NSLP including monitoring and training requirements.
- Understanding of antiracist, culturally responsive and democratic education and the implementation within the content.
- Experience with completion and regulations of the MCAS Alternative Portfolio.
- Experience in curriculum development including adapting regular education content to access and entry points based on the Massachusetts MCAS Alt.

- Understanding of the laws and regulations to support English language learner education.
- Experience and knowledge of data systems.
- Ability to use Microsoft, Google tools and advanced knowledge of email functions including encryption.
- Understanding of FERPA & Student data / confidentiality State and Federal compliance.
- Maintains an active DESE license in teaching, administration and SEI administrator endorsement. (Administrative license and Administrative SEI Endorsement may be acquired while in the position).
CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION, OR LICENSURE REQUIRED BY THE JOB
Must have or be willing to get a Massachusetts DESE Special Education Administrator or Superintendent DESE License and Administrator SEI Endorsement
It is expected that the license will be at the Professional level or moved to the Professional level based on an established plan.
It is expected that the original teaching license will be maintained, and it is understood that his may be or become the secondary license.
