About The Signature Partnerships and Events
New York Cares’ Signature Partnerships & Events (SPE) department is the partnerships and event management team of the Programs division.
Frequently on the ground, the department executes volunteer events with excellence, ensuring participants have the best possible service experience in every New York Cares project or event.
SPE ensures that our projects and annual events follow volunteer engagement and programmatic best practices, and that all logistics are effectively managed.
We build strong relationships with corporate and community partners by consistently stewarding those relationships. We share a belief that all New Yorkers can make a meaningful difference on the most pressing issues our communities face.
About the Coat Drive Operations Coordinator
The New York Cares Coat Drive is one of New York City’s largest and most cherished philanthropic traditions, providing a way to meaningfully support our neighbors through the harshest time of the year.
For 36 years, the Coat Drive has helped more than two million New Yorkers receive warm winter coats.
As part of a seasonal team, the Coat Drive Operations Coordinator provides top notch customer service to our recipient organizations and coat donors alike.
Therefore, the position requires strong customer service skills. If spreading acts of warmth and meeting immediate needs is your gig, this is the position for you.
Please note, this is a seasonal position from September 2024 early March 2025.
Scope of Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Signature Partnerships & Events, you’ll be responsible for the coordination of the delivery of new and used coats to our nonprofit partners (Community Partners) and the production of coat sorting / distribution events.
You’ll be in regular contact with our Community Partners throughout the city confirming details such as their hours of operation, checking in on the quality of coats they’re receiving, and scheduling coat pick-ups at our midtown Coat Drive warehouse.
As the Coat Drive Operations Coordinator, you will :
- Review Coat Drive applications and keep accurate records of all Coat Drive partners and details related to our Coat Drop Off Map.
- Manage the Coat Drive inbox and respond to inquiries by phone and email, providing excellent customer service to all Coat Drive nonprofit partners, donors, and volunteers.
- Set up and manage coat distribution events, including updating the schedule of events, coordinating coat pick-ups, and capturing stories & content from nonprofit partners.
- Staff the Coat Drive warehouse in midtown 2-3x per week to receive coat deliveries and help facilitate coat sorting and distribution projects.

Qualifications
We seek a motivated team player who will take ownership of the Coat Drive process and distribute coats with enthusiasm and commitment to those we serve.
Successful candidates will :
- Understand the value of clear written and verbal communication
- Proactively identify potential challenges and provide meaningful solutions
- Have a flexible schedule, including the ability to work in-person at least 2-3x per week, and to work occasional evenings, early mornings and weekends
- Have a demonstrated ability in producing customer delight
- Have computer and phone skills including familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Google Suite
- AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply
Compensation :
The compensation for this role is $21 per hour; This engagement is for a limited term from approximately September through early March 2025 for 40 hours a week.
