Why?
The US and our allies have prepared for a world where we will be fighting increasingly large and sophisticated systems (Planes, Aircraft carriers, etc), but this world never came.
The future of warfare will involve large numbers of small-scale and mass-manufacturable drones, and we aren’t prepared to defend our country from these threats abroad or domestically.
Aurelius Systems has set out to address this problem by equipping the US and our allies with the systems they need to fight current and future conflicts in a scalable and cost-effective manner.
Our Status
We are an early stage startup that’s recently closed our first capital raise, and are actively expanding the team to develop our first product - an AI laser sentinel.

Job Description
We are building out the first team at Aurelius, and are looking for 2-4 engineers to help develop our first product MVP. Yes, you will be building a laser gun.
This opening is for an optics engineer with experience in EECS, optics, photonics, laser system development and / or robotics.
This person will be simulating and designing new laser systems, retrofitting existing systems to maximize power down-range.
This person will be familiar with laser physics in at least a basic capacity and be ready to do laser work that no one has done before.
There will be opportunities to publish in this position as well.
This is a generalist engineering role that will require self-direction and adaptability. We do hire for technical skills, but are huge believers in the power of learning quickly.

Qualifications
- hyper-engineer
- Evidence of self-directed mechanical and electrical projects
- Experience working with a variety of electronics, including laser systems, optics, gratings, industrial laser lab techniques.
- US Citizen
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related
- Developed self-directed projects regularly
Compensation
Base compensation for this role is between $90,000 to $100,000 with additional equity compensation
