Job Qualifications :
No formal education required beyond a high school diploma
Traffic Control Certification (preferred)
Physical fitness : must be able to carry and lift equipment as needed
Verbal Communication skills critical when providing directions and safety instructions
Duties and Responsibilities :
Direct Vehicles around job sites
Use hand signals and signs to stop and direct traffic at job sites (typically use large direction signs (Stop & Slow Paddles) to tell drivers when to stop or proceed slowly)
Communicate with flaggers or job site personnel’s, especially with other flaggers positioned at different spots along the job site (This helps them coordinate two-way traffic on single-lane roads.
They might also contact members of the job crew to alert them to any traffic concerns that might impact their work or safety)
Set up traffic cones, signs, barricades, water-filled barricades, etc. at and around job sites (This includes detour, Road Work Ahead, End Road Work, and Road Closed signs)
Retrieve all cones, signs, and barricades at the end of the workday as directed
Maintain all equipment in a safe and working condition
Load all required equipment into vehicle prior to job and after job is complete
Physical Requirements / Work Environment :
Requires standing for prolonged periods of time, perform full deep squat, full range of motion of arms and legs, repetitive movement, bending at the elbows, knees, hip and bending forward
Requires lifting and carrying of up to 50lb or more from floor to chest level carrying horizontally or overhead for a certain amount of feet
Organization skills : setting up cones and maintaining traffic patterns around construction sites
Interpersonal skills : the ability to greet drivers and pedestrians with a friendly, outgoing manner and to interact with a diverse population is essential
Self-motivation : should conduct traffic control with little to no supervision during the course of the day
Nonverbal communication methods : hand signals, signs, and other devices
Observe and record any details about drivers who fail to obey signs, speed limits, or other directions (information can be reported to site supervisors or, if possible, law enforcement officers)
Must be constantly aware of both the job site activity and traffic activity taking place around them
Respond to Dispatch Center calls in a timely manner for availability no later than 30 minutes
Completing required paperwork, receipts, and time-sheets on or before mandatory deadlines
Report any and all unsafe conditions to supervisor as soon as possible
Mandatory on call (1 week rotation varies by the amount of drivers employed) *Subject to Change*
Travel outside of the branch location
Available for Special Events on weekends, throughout the year and holidays if needed
Navigate safely to and from office to jobsite
Company reserves the rights to add or change duties at any time
Requires using hands to handle, control or lift objects with a strong grip
Requires stepping at least 33 inches onto tailgate of a truck
Requires being outside and exposed to environmental conditions
