PRIMARY FUNCTIONS :
The assistant principal under the direction of the building principal serves as an instructional leader for the staff, students, and community.
These responsibilities include establishing a climate conducive to learning, clarifying roles and expectations, long-range planning, and coordinating community involvement in the total school program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Work cooperatively with the staff and community in designing and implementing a curriculum to address the needs of students in accordance with state and district standards.
- Work collaboratively with school and district personnel to establish and implement inclusive practices in school programs.
- Conduct classroom observations and DPAS performance appraisals.
- Establish conditions that will promote effective utilization of available resources.
- Assist with the planning, supervising, and directing of the business operation of the school in accordance with district policies and procedures, including the development and administration of the school budget.
- Develop and sustain, in conjunction with the administrative office, a program of public relations to establish and maintain favorable relationships with the community, local groups, and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs.
- Develop school plans and organizational procedures for the health, safety, discipline, and conduct of pupils as established in district procedures.
- Perform other duties and tasks assigned by immediate supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Must be eligible to hold State of Delaware Principal / Assistant Principal Certificate
- Minimum 3 years teaching experience
- Demonstrated successful leadership experience within an organization
- Understanding of special education laws and regulations
- Strong knowledge and experience with and of the IEP process
- Experience with positive behavior supports and Behavior Support Plans
