The company provides solutions for window profiles, pipes, cables, floorings, foils, films and many other applications with a focus on offering a wide range of innovative additives that meet the highest requirements in terms of efficiency, sustainability, and finished product quality.

This position is targeted for cross discipline product development of projects. The person holding this position must be capable of self-managing multiple projects to meet the customer’s needs throughout North America that cover additives for PVC applications from ideation through commercialization.

These projects can include thermoplastic polymer stabilization, highly filled polymer composite lubricants, additive blends, metal soap synthesis as well as general organic synthesis.

This position is also responsible to help develop and monitor business activities / plans to sustainably grow new and existing market areas.

This position also requires the ability to coordinate global entities to achieve defined objectives.

The purpose of this position is to :

  • Develop a variety of additives including stabilizer and lubricants for PVC applications in North America with main emphasis, but not only, the Flooring market.
  • Coordinate global Flooring Market activities with regional responsible party in alignment with the Strategic Plan.
  • Lead cross functional teams during the entirety of the ideation, scale up, and commercialization process.
  • Manage the commercial aspects of products developed including pricing, terms, and P&L responsibility.
  • Work with sales, marketing, and customers to provide technical support of products and processes.
  • Manage and react to market dynamics, competitive activities, product positioning and support the development of the business strategy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and conduct product development of specific PVC additive projects.
  • Understand the influence of various additives on the customer’s final product.
  • Understand various methods of additive addition.
  • Understanding the chemistry of PVC stabilization and lubrication of PVC.
  • Understand polymer processing, including extrusion, calendaring, injection molding etc.
  • Interact with operations to ensure manufacturing process for new and existing additives produces to quality and efficiency.
  • Support and direct technical assistants on lab experimentation.
  • Provide consultation to Baerlocher purchasing and production in the evaluation and approval of critical raw materials.
  • Coordinate lab and field trials of functional additives.
  • Work with Baerlocher’s Quality Department to identify, control, and monitor critical quality attributes of products produced.
  • Interface with Purchasing to ensure there are viable and cost-effective alternatives to key raw materials.
  • Prepare cost & margin analysis and recommend pricing. Be actively involved in contract discussions and negotiating.
  • Identify market needs for potential business growth.
  • Travel to customers and trade shows.
  • Interface with customers, sales, and customer service to ensure the customer requirements are understood, documented, and met.
  • Support the development of the strategic plan and ensure that product development and commercial activity is aligned with the strategic plan.
  • Support the development of the annual budget as it relates to market area.

Candidate Qualifications

Minimum Requirement :

  • Holds a B.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical or Polymer Engineering, Polymer Chemistry or closely related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ industry experience
  • Has the ability to travel 10-30% of the time
  • Has good written and oral communication skills along with attention to detail

Strongly desired :

  • Holds an advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical or Polymer Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, or closely related field
  • Has a degree or experience in commercial activities
  • Six Sigma and DOE experience
  • Understands stage gate methodology for commercialization and technical development
  • Experience in a technical role in a company performing thermoplastic polymer compounding or additivation
  • 3-5 years’ experience in PVC formulating or processing
  • Experience with ISO and Quality Systems and Assurance programs
