General Summary / Overview Statement
MGB Behavioral & Mental Health is an enterprise clinical service that supports and collaborates with all behavioral health departmentsandservices across Mass General Brigham.
Reporting to the Behavioral & Mental Health Inpatient Program Manager, the Resource Specialist supports system initiatives by remotely supportingbehavioral health services across Mass General Brigham’s emergency departments, medical floors, and behavioral health inpatient units.
TheResource Specialist willwork closely with the Program Managerand the Behavioral & Mental Health access team to facilitateinitiatives across the system that improve patient throughput and access.
The schedule for this 16hr position is Saturday and Sunday from 7 : 00am - 3 : 30pm.
Employees will have the opportunity to pick up additional shifts on an as needed basis, depending on the needs of the team.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate referrals for various levels of behavioral health care for patients awaiting treatment across several MGB emergency departments
- Communicate and document bed search results and barriers to placement
- Assist in obtaining insurance authorization for patients upon confirmation of disposition as needed
- Provide daily updates to insurance companies regarding boarding patients as needed
- Implement DMH Escalation protocol for long-stay ED boarders, including contact with insurance and collaboration with DMH, inpatient units, and ED clinicians around placement difficulties
- Coordinate outpatient referrals for patients discharging from the ED and / or inpatient psychiatry unit as requested
- Monitor system-wide capacity and help facilitate admissions reviews by inpatient units as requested
- Coordinate with ED clinicians regarding support needs and progress
- Document and track tasks in medical record
- Assist with data collection and tracking
- Respond to phone calls to central behavioral health call line along with other resource specialists
- Provide cross-coverage for other behavioral health resource specialists as requested
- Attend department meetings as needed
- Assist with other department tasks as assigned
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required,master’s degree preferred; concentration in Social Work, Psychology or Health Care preferred
- Experience with the mental health care field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
