We are seeking a Network Administrator. This is an entry-level, part-time Information Technology (IT) position and serves as the first point of contact in the IT infrastructure division for escalated requests from the IT Help Desk.
This individual is responsible for the network, wiring and connections of the infrastructure along with voice / telco services, and general network administration duties.
The Network Admin is exposed to many technologies, is expected to cross-train with other IT staff, participate in project work as needed, and at times work an adjusted schedule in response to incident management and project implementations.
Example of Duties :
- Monitor and maintain network systems with a focus on those supporting end-user computing.
- Proactively respond to network incidents and troubleshooting issues during scheduled work hours.
- Create and maintain up-to-date infrastructure documentation including network diagrams and topologies, equipment inventories, and other documentation as needed.
- Provide tier 2 support to the IT Service Desk on escalated issues relating to network or server systems.
- Implement and test approved and documented configuration changes to network switches.
- Perform cable management and cable plant improvements including punch down and termination of network cables, installing copper and fiber cables, and assisting vendors in accessing college facilities to perform cable plant work.
- Recommend acquisition of tools or products to enhance system / network performance, add features, or improve service to the college user community.
- Cross-train with peers in the infrastructure services team to achieve full capability in managing all aspects of networking and routing supported by the team.
- Work with Voice-over-IP related technology and phone system platforms and set up end-user phones and voice mailboxes.
- Install and configure both physical and virtual servers including updating firmware, configuring RAID storage, and installation of operating systems.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications :
- Associates degree in a technical field preferred.
- At least one year of information technology experience supporting end-users and configuring and troubleshooting wired or wireless network settings.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with :
- Networking fundamentals such as IP subnetting, and client and server network configuration.
- Troubleshooting network issues.
- Server hardware fundamentals including unboxing, racking, cabling, firmware updates, BIOS configuration, RAID configuration, and installation and configuration of server operating systems.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills
