Steptoe & Johnson PLLC is seeking an experienced paralegal to support our HOA practice. The ideal candidate will have 3 years of experience in compliance and collections. HOA or condominium experience is preferred.
The HOA Paralegal provides daily assistance to the attorney with enforcement of restrictive covenants and recovery of outstanding balances and / or assets relating to community associations.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Monitor accounts for opportunity to take proactive steps.
- Research property ownership and bankruptcy status.
- Handle incoming mail / correspondence / incoming calls directly related to enforcement of restrictive covenants and overdue assessment accounts.
- Interaction with management companies and association directors in connection with enforcement of restrictive covenants and account updates, status reports, and agreement terms.
- Communicate with owners regarding enforcement of restrictive covenants and payments, payment plan options, and account related issues.
- Invoice legal fees and costs.
- Update account status for all collection accounts.
- Negotiate and prepare payment plan agreements.
- Preparation of pleadings and other litigation filings for enforcement of restrictive covenants and collection lawsuits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :
EDUCATION : High School Diploma or GED required. A Bachelor's degree and / or Paralegal certification preferred.JOB STATUS :
This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
