Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Engineering Technician - Traffic & Safety.
As an Engineering Technician for WCRC you would perform a variety of tasks in assisting the Engineering Department to construct and maintain roads including, but not limited to, traffic studies, manual and / or automated drafting, review of construction plans, traffic sign and signal layout, inspection activities and the collection, analysis, documentation and application of engineering data.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Conducts traffic studies and identifies if any problems exist and provides suggested solutions.
- Conducts measurements of curves to verify accuracy of dimensions, levels, alignment, and elevations.
- Conducts vehicle crash investigations.
- Provides a variety of detailed designs, drawings, or maps for roadway improvements and the installation of traffic control devices.
- Reviews preliminary and final construction plans in terms of traffic operations, construction staking and signing, geometric design, final traffic signing, traffic signals, and pavement marking.
- Serves as a recognized expert and provides technical assistance and training to other WCRC staff and local governmental agencies.
- Develops and maintains annual pavement marking program.
- Assists with planning for roadway maintenance and improvement projects.
- Conducts field investigations; takes measurements, prepares sketches, and recommends remedial action.
- Responds to questions and complaints from local officials, contractors, applicants and citizens.
- Represents the WCRC at meetings with the public, other agencies, utility companies, contractors, etc.
- Oversees the technical functions and daily activities of assigned projects.
- Can serve as a final authority to stop work on a project when the work is not in compliance with plans and specifications.
- Performs field reviews and conducts sight line and vision studies.
REQUIREMENTS
Associate's degree, in civil engineering technology, construction technology or a related field is preferred; however, equivalent experience will also be considered.
For Technician I, no prior experience is required. However, Technician II and III positions require 3-5 years of experience as a Technician I or in a similar role.
Valid Michigan driver's license.
