Basic Function

The Manager, Software Engineering leads and develops Software Engineering staff, including Software Engineers, Architects, Quality Engineers, using SCRUM methodologies.

This role is also a hands-on technical resource and provides technical coding and leadership support to the team. Coordinates activities related to software design, development, optimization, maintenance, troubleshooting, implementation, application security remediation and test strategies for software systems.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and lead staff for multiple engineering teams in creation of best-in-class software platforms.
  • Manage performance, coach, and grow all the engineers.
  • Participate in " hands-on" development of key components as necessary as well as POC (Proof of Concept) a nd R&D (Research and Development) Initiatives
  • Collaborate with Product Software Engineering leadership, Architecture, and Agile teams to drive development and testing best practices and delivery.
  • Lead and direct technical tasks, includes encourage team collaboration, innovation, and project ownership.
  • Ensure each project team develops according to software development standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to ensure delivery of product requirements.
  • Proactively Manage Technical Debt i.e technical debt is raised, managed, and prioritized for fix.
  • Drive application security best practices within the development organization and align to the security policies in place.
  • Provide Application Support and Maintenance (as needed)
  • Participate in the evaluation / implementation of third-party software solutions.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and stay well updated with technology changes.
  • Stays abreast of corporate and division strategy and mission.
  • Encourages collaborative efforts and camaraderie with on-shore and off-shore team members.
  • Demonstrates a working understanding of software development processes and methodologies, with the ability to share knowledge with peers, and project team members.
  • Working understanding of industry best standards in software development

TECHNICAL SKILLS EXPERIENCE

  • Proficient in Data Modeling and Object-Oriented design. Familiar with Responsive UI Design
  • Strong experience on Full Stack Technologies including Angular / TypeScript / JavaScript / Node JS / HTML / CSS / Java / Python / AWS / SQL / NoSql / JSON / XML and similar technologies.
  • Experience in UI Frameworks and Service Oriented Architectures
  • Proficient in decomposing Monolith applications into Modular applications
  • Experience with AWS Platform and Container technologies like Docker
  • Experience / Exposure to SSO using SAML / Ping Federate
  • Experience with scripting (Java / Python)
  • Optimizing Application performance to meet Non-Functional Requirements

Job Qualifications

Education : BA / BS in Computer Science, MIS, or related field. MBA degree or equivalent preferred.

Experience :

  • The successful candidate must have a minimum of 7+ years of experience in a technology-based leadership, with progressive increases in leadership roles and responsibilities.
  • Technical Experience with Angular and node.js
  • Technical experience with AWS
  • Technical experience with either SQL or NOSQL
  • The ideal candidate must have a proven track record of managing project resources to meet business and project needs in a direct supervisory capacity.

As such, the candidate must have the ability to understand business strategy and create plans for implementing that strategy in the project.

  • The candidate is part of the HLRP Product Development Technology leadership team and is expected to be a team player and a demonstrated leader.
  • Ability and experience to be a technical hands-on manager with an ability to code.
  • Position is a remote position and candidates in east coast time zone strongly encouraged to apply.*

Travel :

Ability to travel to Philadelphia and New York office up to 25% of the time.

  • Proven ability to lead a team of offshore software engineers and quality engineers and collaborate with on-shore and off-shore teams.
  • Proven experience in documenting technical project artifacts.
  • Strong analytical, detailed, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills (Internal & External)
  • Adaptive, forward-thinking, and team oriented.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment.

  • A willingness to directly execute tasks and manage projects.
  • Ability to manage resources in a matrix environment.
  • Experience with Java
  • Familiar with micro-services architecture, SOLID design principles, TDD, OWASP top 10
  • Familiar with CI / CD platforms.
  • Significant experience with SaaS and web-based technologies
  • knowledge of database design and object / relational database technology.
  • Highly organized and productive, requiring little supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience with project management methodology.
  • Demonstrated experience with a formal Software Development Life Cycle, SCRUM, Agile development experience a must.
  • Customer-Focused with demonstrated ability to deliver results, on time, high quality and on budget working with geographically distributed teams.
  • Experience with software engineering process improvement initiatives
