The Pae Ora legislation gives us the mandate and opportunity to create a system of commissioning that has the needs of whānau and communities at its heart.

In this new model, we are not commissioners' holding the power. We are Te Tiriti o Waitangi partners and allies, we are listeners of diverse voices, we are holders of the space for communities and whānau to lead.

We are a team of teams who live within and reflect the communities we serve.

We are responsible for designing community-based systems of care, agreeing health and wellbeing plans, executing those plans, and monitoring outcomes which then feed into the design process.

We work in partnership with our Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora colleagues to shape system-wide public health services across the motu.

The Director, National Localities Design role leads the national design of the Localities Programme in partnership with Te Aka Whai Ora and has overall responsibility for their strategic roadmap, providing strategic advice that responds to the health needs of our communities.

You're a Senior Leader that brings with you 10+ years of experience of leading system and service design. You are know how to engage with communities and stakeholders to successfully role out services, and have experience with funing models and service frameworks

You have a natural talent for providing strategic direction, while also guiding and supporting the wellbeing and development needs of your team.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā weako Skills and experience

Needs to draw on extensive commissioning experience in varied environments, stretching over 10-15 years including :

  • Demonstrated experience in leading system and service design.
  • Demonstrated experience in place-based planning and collective impact approaches.
  • Experience leading highly skilled, high performing and engaged management and professional teams in a multi-faceted and demanding environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of high quality and timely business strategies and initiatives across a large organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to think conceptually and anticipate the impact of decisions on long-term outcomes, including financial outcomes, and develop / recommend responses in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Experience in communicating complex information and ideas in both oral and written communication to a range of audiences including senior management, Board and Ministers.
  • Experience and knowledge of the machinery of Government.
  • Demonstrates a proven commitment to, and ability of, working in self-directed teams, and as part of a wider Team of Teams to achieve group / team objectives and outcomes.
  • Experience at a senior level building high-trust, effective and influential relationships with partners, stakeholders and community groups, including Māori and Pacific communities and organisations.

  • A commitment to being a good Te Tiriti partner in all your actions. This includes an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the ability to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in this role Mandatory
