Your Role
As an Industrial Designer working within our Product Development practice, you will participate in the entire product design process from visioning to conceptual design to design development to validation.
Throughout this process, you will maintain a continuous dialogue with the Gensler design team and the manufacturer.
What You Will Do
Support the Product Development practice area in the firm’s Northeast region by working with multiple teams inside and outside of Gensler to create new products for the built environment (including furniture, seating, wall systems, lighting, flooring, washroom equipment, and hardware)
Research and evaluate the competitive landscape
Facilitate and participate in pre-design innovation sessions
Meet with Product Development and Design Directors for briefings and reviews
Evaluate the feasibility of design concepts relative to appearance, performance, safety, code compliance, installation ease, serviceability / maintenance, manufacturability, and cost / price objectives
Prepare sketches, illustrations, renderings, and CAD drawings using computer-aided design equipment and programs
Recommend appropriate materials, finishes, and colors
Prepare client presentation documents
Participate in client presentations
Review prototypes and mock-ups
Your Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design
6-10 years of professional Industrial Design experience in relevant product categories
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (must present ideas and information in a clear, concise, well-organized manner)
Well-developed sketching, drawing, visualization, and rendering skills
Expertise in visualization and modeling software programs (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Keyshot)
Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
3D printing and / or model-making experience
Understanding of ergonomics and wire management
Knowledge of manufacturing / assembly processes and molding techniques
Computational design experience a plus
Revit proficiency a plus
Project management experience a plus
Demonstrated curiosity, creativity, energy, and enthusiasm a must
The base salary range will be estimated between $80,000-$95,000 plus bonuses and benefits and contingent on relevant experience.
