The graduate assistant for marketing and fan engagement will play an active role in developing and implementing marketing, sales and fan engagement strategies for the Duquesne Athletics Department.

Under the direction of the Directors, Marketing & Fan Engagement, this position will :

1. Assist with promotional, social media, ticket sales and marketing efforts for basketball teams

2. Serve as floor producer for assigned basketball games

3. Oversee the development and implementation of marketing / attendance initiatives to maximize attendance for assigned Olympic sports including comprehensive social media plans

4. Assist with social media content planning and implementation for GoDuquesne

5. Coordinate and plan athletics involvement in key campus and athletics events DUQ Days, Family Weekend, Alumni Games, Hall of Fame Weekend, etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Secondary marketing contact for men's or women's basketball (team TBD)
  • Contribute to the creation of promotional sales plans for revenue generation
  • Assist in the implementation of a year-round social media engagement plan to increase exposure and fan engagement
  • Coordinate and implement in-season marketing plan to drive attendance
  • Serve as the floor producer for assigned games ensure promotions are executed)
  • Assist with the management of in-game logistics (scripts, production sheets, video board activation, game atmosphere, music, etc.)
  • Drive campus engagement by collaborating with campus groups
  • Develop, direct, coordinate and execute marketing / attendance plans for assigned Olympic sport(s) with clearly defined goals and objectives
  • Prepare and coordinate game-day promotional activities
  • Manage social media channels with timely and engaging content
  • Identify and implement grassroots marketing activities
  • Write and develop content for use in email marketing, print, digital, and social media platforms
  • Contributes to atmosphere plan to drive engagement and home-court advantage including video board content planning, music, and student activation
  • Ensures the in-game activation of all corporate elements for assigned sports
  • Oversees the coordination of game day logistics including scheduling of national anthem performers, color guard, halftime entertainment, public address announcers, and student workers
  • Coordinate athletics-related events to increase brand recognition and engagement across campus
  • Assist in the hosting of all home events and postseason tournaments (Conference Championships and NCAA Tournaments)
  • Other duties as assigned by the Directors of Marketing and Fan Engagement

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (marketing, communications, sports marketing)
  • At least one example of applicable marketing experience at the undergraduate or graduate level
  • Enrollment in a graduate degree program with preference given to students enrolled in the MBA program, Communications, or Marketing (Duquesne Athletics will fund up to six (6) credit hours in the fall and spring semesters)
  • Strong interpersonal, creative, and communication skills are essential, including the ability to communicate in writing
  • Ability to communicate and adhere to University, Atlantic 10 Conference, and NCAA policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of marketing plans and strategy bringing plans from creation to implementation
  • Takes and active role in revenue generation
  • Innovative, creative, and energetic personality that will recommend and implement new ideas
  • Strong focus on social media engagement as well as attendance-building efforts
  • Ability to problem solve, manage multiple tasks, adhere to deadlines, and prioritize work
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Strong desire to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities
  • Ability to receive feedback from colleagues to ensure well-thought and executed plans
  • Willingness to work extended hours beyond the typical business day, nights, and weekends throughout the academic year

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

  • Complete 25 hours of office work per week
  • A commitment of two years and must be available during breaks (10-month appointments each year from August 1 - May 30 with the opportunity for summer work hours)
  • Appointment is based on acceptance into a Duquesne University Master's Program (six credit hours per semester will be paid for by the athletics department as well as a provided stipend for both the fall and spring semesters)

  • Maintain full-time enrollment in a master's program
  • Assistantship begins on August 1, 2024 and concludes on May 31, 2025 (contingent upon a one-year renewal). Should a GA leave sooner, the stipend will be pro-rated to reflect the actual date of departure.
  • GA must seek managerial approval to participate in academic-related programs external to the athletic department (internships, part-time jobs, etc.)
  • Outside employment is acceptable but cannot interfere with GA responsibilities. It is recommended to discuss any external employment with a manager before committing to the role.
