The Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Pediatric Hematologist, with focused training in pediatric benign hematology, hemophilia, and thrombophilia.

The physician will provide clinical patient care services to patients with benign non-malignant blood disorders focusing on benign hematology, bleeding disorders and hemophilia, and thrombosis.

The physician will provide care in a multidisciplinary Hemophilia Treatment Center ( HTC ) to patients with benign hematologic conditions in the outpatient clinic and inpatient unit, including an inpatient hematology consult service.

This physician will also co-attend on the inpatient hematology consult service with other division faculty. There is an opportunity to participate in clinical and translational research projects and to implement clinical trials.

Clinical activities will be carried out at Primary Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Service Line outpatient clinic and inpatient unit in Salt Lake City, UT as well as the soon to open Miller Campus of Primary Children’s Hospital in Lehi, UT.

In addition to clinical service, there is an expectation for academic work, including education, investigation, administration as well as advocacy.

The pediatric hematologist will collaborate with an outstanding group of hematology genetic counselors, pediatric hematologists / oncologists, as well as hematopathologists, pediatric BMT program, and the adult hematology programs, which include active clinical and basic research programs.

In addition, interactions with social workers, physical therapists, neuropsychologists, advanced practitioners, and basic scientists will be an important part of this role.

The Division is made up of 25 pediatric oncologists, including 4 pediatric BMT attendings, and 3 PhD investigators who focus in one of four areas Oncology, Hematology, Bone Marrow Transplantation, or Pediatric Cancer Genetics.

The program sees over 200 newly diagnosed children with cancer annually between the ages of 0 and 21 years of age. It was the top enrolling COG institution last year and is an active member of other national consortiums including PBMTC , TACL , POETIC , NANT , PNOC , and the Sunshine Network.

The division houses the only pediatric BMT service in the Intermountain West, performs over 35 transplants annually, and has an active CAR T cell program.

The Oncology section is made up of 10 physicians with varying levels of clinical, research, and programmatic leadership responsibility in the areas of leukemia / lymphoma, neuro-oncology, blastomas, and sarcomas.

The inpatient unit has 33 private patient rooms where all Hem / Onc patients are admitted. Inpatients are overseen by 3 Hem / Onc services : an inpatient attending / resident / fellow H / O service, a chemotherapy attending / advanced practitioner service, and a BMT service with advanced practitioner support.

All medical, pathology, radiologic and surgical subspecialties are represented in the children’s hospital. Opportunities to collaborate and / or lead clinical, translational, and basic laboratory research projects / programs are available in the Department of Pediatrics and the Huntsman Cancer Institute, an NCI designated comprehensive cancer center connected to PCH .

There are ongoing projects in value-based care, supportive oncology / palliative care, clinical trials, cancer genetics, laboratory research, outcomes, late effects and AYA programs.

Qualified candidates must be Board Eligible / Board Certified in Pediatrics and in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, and must have focused training in pediatric hematology, hemophilia, and thrombophilia.

The selected candidate will receive a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics on the Clinical or Tenure Track at the academic level commensurate with experience and qualifications.
