Job Description Summary :

UCAR's Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) is seeking a new team member for a 4-year, fixed-term contract, to coordinate the implementation of UCAR's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategic Plan and Workplace Culture Survey recommendations under the leadership of the Chief DEI Officer.

The successful candidate will join a team of two other DEI professionals in a supportive environment that prioritizes teamwork, psychological safety, creativity, and staff development.

If you are the successful applicant for this position, your main task will be to work within ODEI to build relationships and liaise with all 28 of UCAR's laboratories, centers, programs, and offices.

You'll work to understand their culture survey results and implementation planning needs, coordinate and help develop and deliver necessary staff training in support of those needs and collect and generate progress reports.

This will involve close collaboration with our professional evaluator and our facilitation team who can provide on-the-job training.

In addition, you will assist in the running of our existing training programs : in-depth UCAR / NSF NCAR Equity and Inclusion (UNEION) training series, bystander intervention training, and occasional supervisor and fieldwork safety training.

These courses cover topics such as power, privilege, identity, gender and gender identity, sexism, homophobia and transphobia, race and racism, difficult conversations, and bystander intervention barriers and techniques.

We don't expect you to be able to immediately lead training on all of these things, as this is something we'll offer you full training and support for, but prior knowledge and understanding of these topics is necessary for you to be successful.

ODEI aims to ground all of our work in the research literature, so familiarity with existing research and best practices would be beneficial but is not required.

This is something that you can learn on the job. Part of your job will be responsibility for maintaining our database of DEI literature and resources - we can train you in Zotero if you are not already familiar.

Finally, due to the nature of our office, we are all sometimes pulled in different directions when responding to the needs of our organization.

You may find that our team's priorities shift as new requests come in, and you will need to be comfortable with re-working your planned activities and priorities to help us meet those requests.

This position is intended to be an opportunity for people to try out a career in DEI, either as a first or second job out of college (undergraduate or graduate) or as an entry point for people interested in transitioning from a different field.

You will have the chance to work with a team of highly skilled professionals who are invested in your growth, to learn what it looks like to do this work in a professional role, and determine if this is something that you want to pursue as a career.

We are particularly interested in applicants with personal and / or professional experience in facilitating conversations about social justice topics, with an emphasis on neurodiversity and the experiences of people with disabilities.

Experience with Black / African American and / or Indigenous communities would also be a benefit.
