General Summary : Researches and writesoriginal copy for a host of college publications and assists in writing forother mediums, including but not limited to, TV and radio transmissions, the weband social media as and when required.
Serves as managing editor for thecollege’s internal e-newsletter. Functions as copyeditor for a full range of communications.
Requirements : Bachelor’sdegree in creative writing, journalism, marketing, communications, English orrelated field and a minimum of four years’ related experience.
Knowledge of and experience with APstyle, copyediting marks required; experience in higher education marketing& communications and / or agency experience preferred.
Musthave demonstrated writing experience in a professional marketing environment.Must possess the ability to write for various mediums, with all copyincorporating marketing communications best practices.
Must be comfortableturning around copy quickly and willing and able to meet tight deadlines. Mustbe knowledgeable of standard publishing industry lingo;
copyediting notations andmarks; and AP Style. Must be detail-oriented and skilled at fact checkingsources. Able and willing to workweekends and evenings when necessary.
Some limited regional travel required.
Duties :
1. Researches and writes copy forcollege-related publications.
2. Works with the chief marketing& public relations officer to develop new communications pieces. Managesprojects through the editorial, design and production stages.
Keeps projects ontrack and within budget. Ensures that all publications adhere to current brandand production quality standards.
3. Gathers information fromoriginal and sourced material, arranging and conducting interviews withinternal and external content experts when necessary.
Works with members of thecollege community, including administrators, faculty, students and alumni in orderto develop communication pieces.
Also works with external partners such asbusiness & industry leaders and civic organizations.
4. Assists other departments,serving as internal consultant on publication / project development, positioningand messaging.
Represents the department on various college committees and subcommittees.
5. Provides assistance andeditorial review for external and internal college publications and ensuresbranding standards and guidelines are adhered to and are consistent across thecollege.
6. Provides copywriting, editingand proofreading for a variety of internal constituents.
7. Performs other related dutiesas required or as assigned.
Clearances : Current criminal record / child abuse clearances will be required if offered the position and in order to be employed at the College.
The three clearances are Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Check.
