Salary Range $19.50 - $22.50 Per Hour
Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate active participation of the residents by implementing their individual program plan in their home and community
- Implement behavior support plans and Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-r) accurately and consistently
- Engage in any necessary lifting, moving and / or positioning tasks for residents
- Facilitate improved gross motor, fine motor and range of motion skills
- Promote and facilitate self-care and personal hygiene
- Assist residents with bathing, toileting, dressing and eating as needed including modeling appropriate behavior, using therapeutic equipment and / or therapeutic feeding
- Foster receptive and expressive communication through many different avenues including sign language, pictograms and electronic devices
- Accurately and consistently complete all required documentation in a continuous manner by utilizing PrecisionCare software and in written form, when necessary
- Purchase all household items (groceries, linens, furniture, small appliances, client need items etc.) as needed according to purchasing procedures
- Maintain expenditures of all purchases and spending within the designated budget
- Organize food preparation schedules for all meals in accordance with dietary needs as written on the master menu working with the dietician or designee as needed
- Organize a schedule of all household tasks and ensure completion by residential direct support staff
- Perform housekeeping tasks when needed including but not limited to : meal preparation, cleaning, laundry and shopping
- Follow HIPAA confidentiality laws
- Monitor petty cash expenditures and assure that necessary banking procedures are routinely completed
- Complete a Personal Expenditure Plan (PEP) and a Money Management Assessment (MMA) for each resident annually
- Maintain each resident’s bank account including managing direct deposits of Social Security benefits, making monthly rent payment for each resident by the 5th of each month and opening accounts when necessary
- Monitor spending of the residents' personal allowance within the established guidelines by maintaining an accurate record of all transactions, depositing all checks in a timely manner and completing an annual report for parents / guardians
- Assist each resident in participating in spending their money as they choose and learning how to manage their money with individualized and person-centered goals
- Ensure the Residence Manager and Maintenance Supervisor are aware when appliance or home repair is needed
- Provide or arrange for the care of any residents who are unable to attend school, work or adult day services
- Provide or arrange for transportation for any resident as necessary
- Attend and actively participate in regular staff meetings and any other meetings scheduled or requested by the Residence Manager
- Adhere to the Code of Ethics for DSPs
- Implement fire, safety and emergency procedures in accordance with agency and program standards
- Administer medications to residents in accordance with the Residential Medication policies and procedures
- Assume shift supervisory responsibilities when requested
- All other duties as assigned by manager
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English including interpreting documents such as safety rules and policy and procedure manuals
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
- Ability to participate in various physical and recreation activities outside the residence
- Possess a current and valid NYS drivers license with an acceptable driving record
- High School Diploma or GED
Certifications and Trainings
- NYS Medication Administration
- SCIP-r
- First Aid
- All other trainings mandated by the Office for people with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD)
- Note : all certifications and trainings will be provided by the agency if you do not already possess them
