Overview
The Education Specialist II position, located in Logan, Utah, will be responsible for developing, promoting, and presenting K-12 teacher resources for Utah Agriculture in the Classroom.
This program is designed to enhance the ability of teachers to increase student knowledge about agricultural and environmental literacy while meeting mandatory Utah Core Standards in science, social studies, nutrition, and career and technical education.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver statewide workshops to present Utah Agriculture in the Classroom’s classroom resources to preservice and inservice teachers.
- Research, design, pilot test, and create research-based educational materials including lesson plans, bulletin boards, kits, and other media that are grade-specific and meet Utah Core Standards for K-12 teachers and their students.
- Design and create promotional materials (for print and electronic distribution) including newsletters, announcements, bulletins, and other media that support Utah Agriculture in the Classroom’s program and mission.
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships with organizations that promote agricultural literacy through formal and nonformal educational outreach, .
Utah Farm Bureau, Utah State Board of Education.
Promote Utah Agriculture in the Classroom at state, regional, and national agricultural literacy-related conferences and meetings.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in agricultural education or related area in K-12 education plus two years of related experience
- Experience and / or knowledge in and about the field of agriculture
- Evidence of curriculum development experience
- Successful teaching experience in public schools
- Experience with word processing (Microsoft Word), spreadsheets (Excel), presentation software (PowerPoint), and design platforms (Canva)
- Proficient use of internet and email
- Evidence of ability to design, deliver, and evaluate quality curriculum and instruction
- Evidence of public speaking and / or presentation skills
- Proven self-starter; ability to work with minimal supervision
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work with diverse audiences
Preferred Qualifications :
- Master’s degree in agricultural education or related area in K-12 education
- Knowledge of current trends in education including familiarity with Utah Core Standards, Common Core, and Next Generation Science Standards
- Experience in the development and writing of K-12 instructional units
- Experience in delivering instruction via online courses
- Experience with graphics for print and electronic publication
- Demonstrated knowledge of marketing to the educational community
- Demonstrated ability to write proposals and administer grants
