What we want
The Windows Systems Administrator III manages the installation, configuration, and maintenance of a Windows Server infrastructure.
This role requires advanced troubleshooting skills, security expertise, and the ability to mentor junior team members. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of Windows Server and Active Directory administration, Microsoft Exchange Server, strong scripting abilities, and proficiency in configuration management tools.
Additionally, familiarity with Terraform and Github will be beneficial.

Required Education and Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Five years of systems administration experience
- Five years of Windows systems administration related experience, including a strong background in managing an Active Directory Environment
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
- Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- This position will take part in an on-call rotation that provides 24 / 7 tier III support for managed IT resources
Preferred Qualifications :
- Proficiency in managing Windows Server operating systems
- ITIL Foundations certification
- Proficiency with Windows Server, enterprise Active Directory Domain Services, Entra ID, Microsoft Exchange Server, Duo MFA administration, RRAS / RADIUS, configuration management, system monitoring and alerting, automation using scripting
Responsibilities :
Server and System Support
- Manage server infrastructure stand alone machines, virtual servers, Aggie Cloud, and commercial cloud.
- Build and maintain individual departmental and enterprise servers. This includes web servers, databases, fileservers, and other Windows servers.
- Manage and consolidate enterprise Active Directory environments.
- Re-engineer, deploy, and manage departmental web services in a containerized environment.
- Coordinate server needs with TAMU Technology Services and other outside vendors.
- Perform regular maintenance as needed, including patches, software installation, and regular backups.
- Assist with disaster recovery
- Ensure compliance with state laws and university policies
- Participate in on-call rotation providing 24 / 7 tier III support for managed IT resources
Specialized Duties
- Leads in resolving hardware and software problems with vendor field engineers.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of both critical and non-critical software.
- Documents all changes to systems software and develops entries for systems inventory records.
- Provide technical leadership in other areas of a complex computing environment such as production control, disaster recovery, networking, computer operations, or other operating systems.
- Has primary responsibility for one or more software products.
- Recommend and evaluate software and hardware upgrades.
- Learn and develop procedures to develop systems software.
- May assist with the development of systems software.
Automation and Documentation
- Creates programs for automating system administration.
- Documents server support methods, procedures, and configuration.
Technology Evaluation and Recommendation Assistance
- Proposes and assists with recommendations, specifications, and plans for server hardware and software purchases.
- Leads the evaluation of new technologies to determine their suitability for clients’ needs.
System Security and Data Protection
- Monitors and maintains system security.
- Provides backup, protection, and recovery support for client data.
- Leads new technology deployments and system integration testing.
