Health Care Services Associate Director - Downtown Campus

Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer of the UI Medical Center Downtown and working closely with senior leadership, the Associate Director plays a crucial role in planning, monitoring, and supporting clinical systems within the UI Medical Center Downtown.

The position requires collaboration with UI Health Care leadership to develop and implement plans for hospital-wide system integration.

Building trust-based partnerships with internal teams and stakeholders is vital for successful integration and enterprise operations.

The Associate Director is responsible for providing management and oversight across all aspects of the UI Medical Center Downtown operations, including financial performance, clinical quality, employee relations, physician relations, and community engagement.

This role involves supporting UI Health Care leadership in driving key initiatives and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation across the institution.

Position Responsibilities

Human Resources Management :

  • Collaborate with HR department to ensure effective recruitment, retention, and development of hospital staff.
  • Implement strategies for employee engagement, performance management, and conflict resolution.

Financial and Data Management and Analysis :

  • Work closely with the Chief Administrative Officer to develop and monitor budgets, financial forecasts, and revenue cycle management strategies.
  • Conduct data analysis to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and areas of cost containment.
  • Utilize financial and operational metrics to inform decision-making and drive performance improvement initiatives.

Operations :

  • Provide leadership and oversight for day-to-day operations of the UI Medical Center Downtown.
  • Streamline processes and workflows to optimize efficiency and resource utilization.
  • Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance operational effectiveness and patient care delivery.

Standards of Care :

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with clinical leaders to establish and maintain high standards of care and patient safety.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives to address gaps in care and enhance clinical outcomes.

Quality and Patient Satisfaction :

  • Monitor patient satisfaction scores and feedback to identify areas for improvement.
  • Implement strategies to enhance the patient experience and promote patient-centered care.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical outcomes and patient safety.

Patient Care / Services Delivery :

  • Collaborate with clinical leaders, physicians and departments to optimize patient care delivery processes and workflows.
  • Ensure adequate resources are available to support patient care needs and services.
  • Monitor key performance indicators related to patient care delivery and intervene as needed to address issues.

Planning and Goal Management :

  • Participate in strategic planning processes to align hospital goals with organizational objectives.
  • Develop and implement action plans to achieve strategic objectives and key performance targets.
  • Track performance metrics. Participate and contribute to specific initiatives or tactics to successfully implement interventions or proposals to advance critical metrics to ultimately contribute towards successful implementation and achievement of strategic objectives and key performance targets.

Adjust plans as needed to ensure successful outcomes.

Communication / Collaboration :

  • Foster open communication and collaboration among hospital staff, department leaders, and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as a liaison between the UI Medical Center Downtown and other entities within the UI Health Care system.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary teamwork and coordination to achieve common goals.

Strategic Planning :

  • Collaborate with the Chief Administrative Officer and UIHC Strategy team to operationalize plans for the UI Medical Center Downtown.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of long-term strategic plans for the UI Medical Center Downtown.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align strategic initiatives with the overall mission and vision of the organization.

Pay Level : 7A

Education Requirements

Master’s degree in health care administration, business administration, finance or accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of related health care, business, or operational management experience with progressively more responsible experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working and managing relationships with senior level administration or leaders and ability to influence and motivate organizational constituencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate with and influence key stakeholders, integrating ideas to achieve outcomes.
  • Demonstrated strong ability to translate complex data / information into simple, actionable insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial, organizational and staff resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategy implementation and project management.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and computer software applications.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful environment.
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.

Highly Desired Qualifications

  • Operational and / or financial management experience in an academic health care setting.
  • Experience working in a management position with contribution to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years), and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business or strategic plan.
  • Ability to demonstrate the core leadership competencies and commitments for the organization which includes striving for performance excellence.
  • Proven success for driving results and instilling accountability throughout the team and organization.
  • Experience with EPIC and EPIC reporting.
  • Experience working in a clinical department.
