The department of Psychiatry has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Assistant Scientist on the UHealth campus. The Assistant Scientist, SOM carries out a particular research agenda in support of the University’s research goals and objectives.
Moreover, the Assistant Scientist, SOM contributes to the scientific community by publishing research findings and promotes the University’s reputation as a leader in the field.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
- Contributes to basic and applied research activities and authors scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent preparations.
- Collaborates with senior staff to publish findings in refereed journals.
- Creates and conducts experiments and analyzes results.
- Works with other researchers to use and develop end products.
- Writes extramural proposals with approval from appropriate senior staff.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
- Understand each project’s specific aims, program plan, timeline, and reporting requirements
- Manage each project’s activity timeline and recruitment needs.
- Coordinate the development of the project’s training and intervention materials.
- Manage research project planning, conduct, and follow-up activities and ensure quality assurance.
- Plan, design, and conduct experiments in the assigned research project. This includes developing hypotheses, designing methodologies, and executing experimental protocols.
- Gather, analyze, and interpret data using appropriate statistical methods. Ensure the integrity and accuracy of the collected data.
- Conduct thorough literature reviews to stay updated with the latest advancements in the field and to frame research questions in the context of existing knowledge.
- Write and contribute to preparing research manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Ensure compliance with journal guidelines and ethical standards.
- Present research findings at departmental meetings, conferences, and other relevant forums. Prepare posters, slides, and other presentation materials.
- Work collaboratively with faculty, researchers, and other postdoctoral fellows within the Center and department.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to graduate and undergraduate students involved in the research project. Assist them in developing research skills and methodologies.
- A mentored research project designed and conducted by the trainee in collaboration with his / her mentors.
- Participation in the Center's activities, including weekly project and monthly faculty meetings, conferences, annual retreats, research progress meetings, and linkages to other partnerships within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, as guided.
- Coordinate the planning, development, and submission of grant applications.
- Assist in preparing and submitting grant proposals to secure funding for ongoing and future research projects.
- Assist with preparing regular progress reports and updates for the principal investigator and funding bodies. Ensure compliance with institutional and funding agency regulations.
- Engage in continuous professional development by attending workshops, seminars, and training sessions. Stay updated with the latest tools and techniques in the field.
- Build professional relationships with other researchers and institutions to foster collaborative opportunities and career advancement.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines and institutional policies regarding research practices, including obtaining necessary approvals.
- Participate in community outreach and public engagement activities to disseminate research findings to a broader audience.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree relevant field
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
