- Provide content expertise for any career development and management materials, handouts, presentations, web media, and other self-help guides for graduate career development.
- Collaborate with faculty, career advisors, and graduate and professional student and postdoctoral leaders to develop programs and services that are specific to the career development needs of graduate and postdoctoral populations.
- Assist with assessment activities, including using assessment results to inform program and service improvements.
- Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation for multiculturalism with a commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the delivery of all programs and services.
Percentage of time Duties / Responsibilities Faculty Engagement
Engage faculty in career development activities with the following Career Education Strategy guiding the process : Explore ways to transform career development from a service to a university-wide strategy;
Position the way UGA thinks about and approaches career education moving from services (i.e., career counseling, career fairs, resume reviews) to an educational strategy incorporated into all parts of the student experience curriculum, student affairs, experiential learning.
- Develop strategies to reframe educational goals to include pursuit of career paths. This includes creating a campus culture of career development advocates faculty, staff, alumni to support UGA undergraduate and graduate students as well as developing a process so faculty can be recognized for their student career advocacy.
- This position will hold the primary role of faculty and staff career engagement and focus on the Career Center’s key strategic priority of creating a campus culture of career development advocates faculty, staff, alumni to support UGA students.
- This position will hold the primary role of developing, executing, and measuring the Career Center strategic plan for related to this key engagement priority.
- Create organizational infrastructure, policy, and accountability measures for faculty incorporating career development activities into their classrooms.
Percentage of time Duties / Responsibilities Management and Supervision
Supervise a team of career consultants and graduate assistants. Provide guidance and support through meetings (group and individual), semester reports, strategic planning, and professional development opportunities.
Percentage of time Duties / Responsibilities Career Coaching & Graduate Student Advocacy
- Provide group advising, counseling, coaching sessions to graduate students to assist with career exploration and development and job / internship search strategies.
- Evaluate the effective use of potential on-line career resources and pursue institutional subscriptions focused on graduate career exploration and preparation, including Imagine PhD and Aurora, by Beyond the Professoriate.
- Work primarily with graduate and professional students.
Percentage of time Duties / Responsibilities Education Support & Team Involvement
- Provide dedicated partnership / support for Employer Relations & Community Partnerships staff in the UGA Career Center to advance employer outreach and cultivation of career opportunities for graduate and professional students.
- Stay current on changing economic and labor conditions and industry trends through employer research and by engaging with internal / external stakeholders and share trends regularly with faculty, staff, and stakeholders.
- Stay current on trends and best practices in graduate career development by engaging in regional and national programing of the annual Graduate Careers Consortium, the Council of Graduate Schools (periodically), and other organizations relevant to graduate career development.
- Participate in campus Career Development Professionals Network, staff meetings in the UGA Career Center and the Graduate School (if applicable), and other relevant meetings and functions.
- Participate in events including orientations, open house, and other functions to promote and represent the Career Center and the Graduate School.
