Rate : $20.00 to $25.00

Shift differential for shifts starting after 3pm

POSITION SUMMARY

Working in close collaboration with the Excursion Coordinator, the Bus Driver operates the Redwoods’ bus and safely transports Redwoods’ residents and staff according to established schedules.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Arranges for the safety and comfort of passenger’s various trips, medical visits, errands according to facility procedures.
• Assists passengers in onboarding and deboarding of the bus.
• Performs regular minor maintenance and service on facility vehicles such as checking to ensure that vehicles are in working order, refueling, checking oil and water.
• Maintains simple records relating to vehicle operations and schedules.
• Maintains vehicle neat orderly condition and adequate inventory of bus supplies and equipment.
• Maintaining effective and collaborative relationships with staff, residents, resident family members, and outside vendors.
• Attend applicable staff meetings, in-services, mandatory training events and other appropriate meetings as required by The Redwoods and / or the department.
• Report all unsafe / hazardous conditions / accidents, defective equipment, etc., to the Director of Life Enrichment and Transportation or designee.
• Maintain the confidentialityof all resident care and protected health information as required by HIPAA and by Redwood’s policy.

Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information.

• Support volunteers who have been assigned to assist with activities. Report any / all inappropriate conduct to the Volunteer & Production Coordinator as soon as possible.
• Assure that resident rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property, and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints are followed.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have a valid California-issued Driver’s License in good standing- Required.
• Must possess a valid Class B Certification or obtain the certification within 90 Days of hire- Required.
• Must be willing to participate in the mandatory Employer Pull Notice Program mandated by CA DMV.
• Must be willing to participate in the mandatory driver’s drug testing program mandated by the CHP Motor Carrier Unit.
• Minimum of 1 year driving a bus preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Organizational and basic computer skills to plan, implement, and evaluate activities for residents.
• Ability to communicate that is understandable in a diverse manner required to successfully interact with and engage residents, guests, and volunteers.
• Ability to work independently while functioning as part of a team.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Physical effort required for daily duties include lifting, squatting, bending, reaching, twisting, stooping for long periods of time.
• Must be able to push, pull, move, and / or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and / or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
• Must be able to walk distances equal to the length of the campus (approximately 5-7 acres).
• Must be able to feel, hear, see, smell, and speak adequately to perform essential job functions.
• Manual dexterity required to handle equipment.
• Must take and pass initial and annual test for TB.
