Engineering Technician
The Engineering Technician CAD Designer will have primary responsibility creating or modifying part and assembly models and drawings using CREO and integrating that data into CAD management software as well as Document Control software.
As such, this role will create and execute Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) in an ISO 9001 design environment.
The majority of the work is creating or modifying assemblies involving motors, gears, encoders, and drive elements. This will involve selecting appropriate datums, tolerancing, and basic GD&T.
There will also be the opportunity to build these skills.
Secondary responsibilities for the CAD designer will be to support development engineering on projects. This may involve lab work soldering, using engineering test equipment such as force / torque gauges, oscilloscopes, multimeters.
The Technician will also have the opportunity to broaden their skillset to learn this equipment if desired.
This position will become the most familiar with certain processes and will have the opportunity to recommend process changes and improvements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Read, understand, and analyze engineering drawings.
- Assess and troubleshoot motors, gear boxes, encoders, assemblies, and similar parts for appropriate functionality.
- Test using electrical equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
- Test using mechanical test equipment such as force or torque gauges.
- Examine using optical equipment such as magnification or microscopes.
- Use online and intracompany resources to determine appropriate mating electrical connectors.
- Develops a well-reasoned plan to analyze a failure based on sound engineering principles.
- Writes a professional technical report summarizing findings and making a recommendation for further actions.
- Follow protocols and instructions to use, input, and modify content in a largescale database (IFS).
- Communicate effectively with Engineering, Sales, and customers using appropriate technical detail.
- Work with ERP-Enterprise Planning system / software, IFS
- Maintain running status of all returns
- Routinely audit open returns and inventory
COMPETENCIES
- Familiarity with electrical equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
- Use of a microscope and magnification.
- Basic understanding of electric motor physics.
- Basic understanding of statics and dynamics.
- Fundamental knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles.
- Uses technical language to communicate as an engineer to Engineering and Sales.
- Understanding of Ohm’s Law and ability to apply it.
- Ability to tell a technical story convincingly and professionally in a written laboratory and / or test report.
- Possesses interpersonal skills adequate for frequent interface with all levels of the organization.
- Organized and able to juggle multiple returns simultaneously.
- Ability to navigate ERP system
- Microsoft Word / Outlook / Excel (basic skills)
- Able to use Outlook to write emails, set up meetings.
- Familiarity with videochat.
- Able to use excel to organize, sort, and calculate.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES
- Associates degree (AS) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience writing professional laboratory or test reports.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in an electromechanical lab environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines as well as electronic and mechanical test equipment such as force gauges, power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters, dynamometers, microscopes et al.
There is an expectation you will be comfortable working in a lab, assembly, or machine-shop area.
The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to factory areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment.
