Under the supervision of the Director of Competitive Aquatics, the Head Site Coach will be responsible for the day-to-day operations, communication, and hands-on guidance of our Y Swim League (recreation) and Swim Club (competitive) swim programs.
This position will also support the growth of our Masters Swim Team by providing on-deck coaching hours as needed.
Essential Functions / Job Duties :
- Serves as the lead swim team contact for Family Center.
- Works closely with other coaches to help swimmers improve their swimming competence, confidence, and character, along with fostering genuine connections within the Y community.
- Supports the implementation of new competitive aquatics programs and be responsible for assisting in all participant recruitment, retention, program carry out, as well as administrative tasks associated with the swim team programs at the Hallandale location.
- Assists member services to promote swim team programs, communicates as necessary with parents and other coaches regarding assignments, swimmer progress, and upcoming events.
- Attends swim meets as scheduled and assists with the preparation of special events relating to the swim team.
- Motivates swimmers of all ages to be great in a positive way.
- Performs administrative duties, such as, swim meet entries, tracking progress, and email communication at the location.
- Attends staff meetings as scheduled.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities / Position Requirements :
Minimum Qualifications :
- High School Diploma and / or GED.
- Strong understanding of the sport of swimming and the rules and regulations.
- Ability to manage occasional stressful conditions, react calmly in emergencies, and work irregular hours.
- 2+ Years of Experience with Head Age Group Coaching Responsibilities or Similar.
- Communicate effectively and timely with the coaching staff, swimmers, and parents as needed.
- Demonstrated managerial and organizational skills that promote team success.
- Must have / demonstrate professionalism, decision-making skills, and a willingness to follow directives from the Association Director of Competitive Aquatics.
- Must have, or be willing to learn, basic working knowledge of swim team software .
- Must have a desire to learn and continue coaching education.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4+ years of Head Coach / Head Age Group Coach experience.
- Preference is given to swimming experience at a college level.
- Certifications : Current CPR / AED Certification, current First Aid Certification
- Safety Training for Swim Coaches Certification In-Water Skills Checklist or Lifeguard Certification (within 30 days of employment)
- YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving Certification (within 30 days of employment)
- All Relevant USA Swimming Coach Certifications
