Develop, design and improve new and existing automotive products. Generally, complete the following duties and responsibilities independently with minimal support of engineering management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Generally assigned to complex components, sub-assemblies and systems. Assignments may include programs with new customers, the introduction of new operating procedures and the product delivery process (CAAPD).
- Coordinate the complete development for the designated products including, but not limited to design, build and test activities, in accordance with standard operating procedures and the product delivery process (CAAPD).
- Key customer interface (internal and external) who can successfully negotiate and influence design direction for optimum feasibility and cost.
- Helps define and incorporate customer requirements, and product specifications into the design of the designated products, ensuring compliance with operational, cost, timing, safety, reliability, quality and manufacturing feasibility parameters and government regulations
- Analyze products and formulates engineering conclusions by the application of engineering and / or mathematical principles and tools.
Applies Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design of Experiments (DOE), Pugh Analysis, Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA / VE), and Design for Manufacturing / Design for Assembly (DFM / DFA) in the development of the product.
- Write / compile engineering content for the following deliverables : engineering specifications and documentation, including DVP&R’s, 8D’s, GD&T, BOM, prototype control plans, key product characteristics, engineering changes and work orders.
- Consult and collaborate with personnel in various engineering and design activities relative to product development requirements.
Conducts effective communications within the project team and the customer, supplier, manufacturing and quality communities with guidance from engineering management and senior engineering personnel.
Maintains all appropriate documentation.
- Provide engineering direction and support to design personnel.
- Review and approve engineering designs. Review, approve, complete, and submit required change notices to ensure design outputs meet design inputs.
- Independently prioritize the completion of tasks and resolution of issues to ensure compliance to program deliverables.
Contribute to the development of project timing and set targets to manage release of product deliverables per Master Timing Plan.
- Maintain Good Housekeeping of the area
- Ensure adherence to company, departmental and health and safety systems and policies to meet legislative requirements.
- Supports Internal / External Audit efforts regarding ISO 9001 : 2015, IATF 16949 Certification for remote site location (Group Office).
- Identify special product characteristics (critical, significant, pass-through, process).
- Able to travel at least 25%, including possible international travel
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience / Competencies
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience in automotive seat structures
- Minimum 4+ years of experience leading engineering product design / development
- Demonstrated ability to apply advanced academic and other engineering principles in the development of diverse automotive components using engineering tools such as DFMEA, DVP&R, APQP, DFSS Tools, Tolerance Analysis, Manufacturing Feasibility, Root Cause Analysis & Problem Solving, and Statistical Analysis.
- Successfully completed all phases of a Product Launch.
- Demonstrated ability to make product decisions in a timely manner to meet customer (internal and external) key milestone events and work autonomously with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to read, create, and comprehend engineering drawings and specifications. Basic competency in CAD and the ability to provide engineering direction to the design personnel.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills : able to communicate (written and verbal) clearly and succinctly in a variety of settings and styles and demonstrated ability to influence the product design.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills and the ability to successfully complete multiple tasks within established and changing deadlines.
- Demonstrated successful performance with independent problem solving and presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate crisis situations (i.e. no builds, shutdown, etc.)
- Proficient knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint, and database applications.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting and on the plant floor.
