Brief Description of Duties

The University of the District of Columbia is a public land grant institution of higher learning dedicated to providing quality, career-focused undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and credentials needed to launch, enhance, or change careers.

Incumbents must teach all assigned classes and hours as determined by the semester course schedule; Incumbents will be required to prepare and deliver relevant curriculum to students, using a variety of teaching methods to include, but are not limited to, lectures, class discussions, demonstration labs, and projects.

The University of the District Division of Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning (UDC-WDLL), a branch campus of the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), is seeking enthusiastic and qualified part-time instructors interested in teaching courses in one or more of the following areas within the Information Technology Pathway 1) IT Fundamentals, 2) Computer Technician A+, 3) Network +, 4) Security+, 5) Microsoft Office Suite, 6) Linux, 7) Microsoft Windows Operating System, 8) UNIX, 9) Introduction to Cybersecurity, 10) CCNA- Routers & Switches, 11) Web Design 12) Project Management 13) Amazon Web Services (AWS), 14) Introduction to Oracle DBA, 15) IOS Application, 16) Introduction to Python, 17) ITIL-Introduction & Best Practices, 18) ITIL-V4.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on, guided, differentiated instruction to students enrolled in the courses as specified in the schedule and course contract.
  • Participate in evaluating and selecting assigned text and instructional materials; prepare course materials and lesson plans.
  • Conduct efficient and effective classroom management.
  • Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the institution, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
  • Use the institution’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students, in a timely manner.
  • Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered.
  • Regularly communicates and refers students to university and division-wide student success (academic and career) opportunities, resources, services, events, and information to assist students in removing and / or mitigating barriers to employment to achieve their educational and career goals.
  • Maintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments and grades, and submit class rosters and grade sheets by the deadlines established by the institution.
  • Provide an educational environment conducive to learning, establishing, and maintaining classroom control.
  • Encourage students to submit course evaluations / surveys, review course evaluations and use feedback to improve course delivery.
  • Attend all required meetings to stay abreast of all pathway-specific and division-wide policies, requirements, and expectations.
  • Review and adhere to the WDLL Faculty / Instructor guide .
  • Meet with the Dean or Pathway Director as needed to discuss all aspects of the course including student progress and curriculum development (may be required to provide input into program development), on a regular basis.
  • Adhere to University and division-specific policies and guidelines in all matters concerning academics and student and staff conduct.
  • Provide student progress reports to the Pathway Director.

Minimum Job Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in subject matter area
  • Prior teaching experience in the subject field / industry or must demonstrate evidence of teaching potential.
  • Must possess current certification in subject matter (Certification must be the same as the course being taught).
  • Be familiar with subject area certification processes, guidelines, and procedures.
