Our dedicated team operates 24 / 7 to ensure the best outcomes for pets in critical situations. We are seeking an experienced Evening / Overnight ER Veterinary Technician Manager to lead our second shift and overnight operations with a blend of technical expertise and strong leadership skills.

The Evening / Overnight ER Veterinary Technician Manager is a key leader in our emergency care team, responsible for overseeing and managing the evening and overnight shifts.

This role requires a dynamic individual who excels as both a veterinary technician and a manager, capable of leading and mentoring a team of technicians and paraprofessionals.

The manager will ensure high standards of patient care, effective team collaboration, and efficient operations during non-daytime hours.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Management :

  • Lead, mentor, and provide guidance to the evening and overnight veterinary technician team, including training new staff and overseeing their professional development.
  • Delegate tasks effectively to ensure that all aspects of emergency care are managed efficiently and that the team operates cohesively.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and address any team issues or conflicts promptly.

Clinical Oversight :

  • Oversee and participate in the delivery of emergency care, including triage, diagnostics, treatment, and surgical assistance as needed.
  • Ensure that all veterinary procedures and protocols are followed accurately and in compliance with hospital standards.
  • Maintain high standards of patient care, monitoring and adjusting treatment plans as necessary to optimize outcomes.

Operational Efficiency :

  • Manage and coordinate the workflow of the ER department during evening and overnight shifts, ensuring that all tasks and responsibilities are completed effectively.
  • Oversee inventory management, including ordering supplies and ensuring that equipment is maintained and functioning properly.
  • Ensure that all medical records and documentation are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

Client Communication and Support :

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients during evening and overnight hours, providing updates on their pets’ conditions and treatment plans.
  • Address client concerns and questions with empathy and professionalism, ensuring a positive experience even during stressful situations.
  • Facilitate smooth communication between the ER team and clients, as well as with referring veterinarians.

Emergency and Specialty Care Coordination :

  • Coordinate with other departments and specialists to ensure comprehensive care for patients requiring advanced or specialty services.
  • Manage the referral process, ensuring that all necessary information is relayed and that clients are informed about their pets' care options.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise to be Successful

Experience :

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a veterinary technician, with a strong background in emergency and critical care settings.
  • Proven experience in a leadership or management role, demonstrating effective team management and delegation skills.

Skills and Competencies :

  • Excellent clinical skills with a deep understanding of emergency procedures, diagnostics, and treatments.
  • Strong leadership abilities with experience in mentoring, training, and guiding a team of veterinary professionals.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain efficiency during high-stress situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with clients, team members, and other departments.

Education and Certification :

  • Associate’s Degree or higher in Veterinary Technology from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Veterinary Technician license (LVT / RVT / CVT) in the state of Tennessee, strongly preferred.
  • Advanced certifications in emergency and critical care are a plus.

  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to work evening and overnight shifts as needed. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.

Schedule : Non-negotiable - Evening and overnight shifts to support both second and third shift teams. This requires flexibility to cover both schedules as needed.

Rotating weekends and holidays required. Schedule to be discussed with direct hiring manager during on site interview.
