The Role

The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager is responsible for food safety and compliance to ensure full compliance with SQF, USDA regulatory agency standards, and / or federal and state mandates.

Additionally, this role ensures strict compliance to USDA, SQF and GMP requirements and processes.

As QA Manager, the ideal candidate will mentor, develop, train, and motivate the QA team to make certain all products are produced within required quality specifications and regulatory requirements.

The QA manager plays a pivotal role in providing leadership, training and direction of all food safety and compliance requirements to uphold company and regulatory standards to the highest level of quality and integrity.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage QA department activities including training, task assignment, performance appraisals, and issue resolution
  • Oversee product releases, Certificates of Analysis (COA) issuance, and manage COA processes
  • Review and approve incoming ingredients, packaging materials, production and HACCP documentation before use and final product release.

Initiate QA holds as needed

  • Oversee daily sanitation, food safety, lab swabs, third-party labs, and review micro results and environmental swabs, taking corrective action as required
  • Ensure product safety, regulatory compliance, and alignment with customer, SQF, USDA, and company standards, including label reviews and pre-operational inspections
  • Serve as liaison with USDA and FSIS Inspectors, addressing non-compliance records within required timeframes
  • Develop, document, and implement food safety processes (SSOP, HACCP, SQF), ensuring compliance with GMP, USDA, and other regulatory programs.

Enforce FSQA programs and report metrics to senior management.

  • Manage food safety and quality programs and provide ongoing training for staff. Collaborate on policy and quality improvements with management
  • Manage external third-party audits, to include preparation and identifying problem areas
  • Participate in leadership meetings and provide relevant data and analysis
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling, with sufficient physical strength to perform tasks
  • Must occasionally lift / move up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and work in extreme temperatures (hot, cold, humid, etc.

or adverse conditions

Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and vibration may occur; must wear personal protective equipment per company safety standards

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledgeable in food safety programs, policies, and regulations (USDA, SQF) with strong experience in HACCP, quality systems, and sanitation requirements.
  • Preferably SQF, HACCP, and Food Safety Manager Certified, with relevant experience in a USDA regulatory environment.
  • General understanding of plant functions (production, maintenance, warehouse, shipping, sanitation) and management principles.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and computer skills (Microsoft Office 365)
  • Bilingual a plus

Education and Experience

  • Preferred : Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Biology, Agriculture, or related field
  • Experience in food industry can replace education preferences
  • Food Safety and Quality Assurance Experience : 3 - 5 years
  • Management Experience in Food Industry : 3 - 5 years

Pay : Salary is commensurate with experience- Starts at $70,000
