Primary Function & Position Overview As an educator at Public Prep Academies we encourage our students to build independence as learners.

We fully support the development of our educators to broaden their interpretation of culturally and linguistically diverse students’ learning behaviors.

Lead Teachers at Public Prep elementary schools are held accountable for the academic and social-emotional success of each of the students in their classes and must consistently plan for, and monitor the progress, of each of their students in order to meet this responsibility.

The Lead Teacher reports to the Academic Director or Principal.Lead Teachers meet regularly with their grade-level team members and other collaborators in order to address planning curriculum, analyzing data, organizing and developing family communication, discussing and implementing academic and behavior intervention, and academic learning goals for all students.

They are responsible for content instruction in mathematics, English Language Arts, PE and the arts (visual arts, dance, theater, and music) and social-emotional learning.

Lead Teachers in Math / ELA will effectively plan and implement Lavinia’s Summer Boost curriculum to drive scholars’ academic growth.

Lead Teachers in the Arts will teach artistic skills inspired by ELA and Math source material / concepts. Lead Teachers in the Arts will implement arts integration lessons in either Math or ELA content areas twice a week to support scholars’ Math / ELA skill development.

Lead Teachers receive frequent feedback and observation, coaching cycles, and professional development based on the Charlotte Danielson framework for teaching.

The Summer School Teacher will report to the Summer School Principal, under the direction of the Superintendent. The compensation for this role is $7,500. Duties & Responsibilities

Classroom Instruction and Student Assessment

  • Create a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment that motivates and supports students.
  • Deliver literacy and / or math instruction through the Lavinia’s Summer Boost program to a class of about 20-23 scholars.

Use PPN Data to inform instruction.

Conduct Lavinia baseline and exit assessments.

Build Partnerships with Family Members

  • Build relationships with parents / caretakers.
  • Assist in family orientation(s) prior to programming.
  • Make positive calls to families throughout the program.
  • Celebrate success at an end of programming culminating event.

Participate in coaching and Professional Learning Community

  • Submit lesson plans for feedback and review.
  • Take part in feedback and coaching conversations with the Summer School Principal following classroom observation.
  • Participate and engage in weekly coaching / faculty workshops to review student data, plan interventions, and share best practices.
  • Seek input, resources, and advice from the Summer School Principal as needed.

Prepare for Programming

Attend and engage in SummerBoost training : Teacher Orientation, Family Engagement PD, and Lavinia PD.

Hours :

  • Professional Development : June 24-28 : 9am-3pm
  • Math / ELA Teaching Hours : Monday - Friday, July 8th - August 5th 7 : 30 am-1 pm
  • Arts-based Teaching Hours : Monday - Friday, July 5th - August 4th 10 am-3 : 30 pm
  • Monday, August 5th : 7 : 30am-4 : 30 pm mandatory field trip.
  • One 90 minute orientation meeting TBD in May.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • An , or master’s degree in the relevant content area, preferred
  • New York State Certification for relevant grades and content area, or demonstrated process towards receiving reciprocity for certification from other states
  • A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated success as a full-time elementary / middle school classroom teacher
  • Demonstrated success working in a high-performing, urban school setting preferred
  • Preferred candidates who have a desire to work with a diverse population of students and linguistic backgrounds
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching through continuous learning and data analysis
  • Commitment to engaging in an arts-integration / project-based learning model to support ELA and Math skill development.
  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills
