The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports.
ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment.
In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community.
The Children’s Center is a 24-hour shift-based operation providing services for New York City’s highly vulnerable population of abused and / or neglected children who have been removed from their parents / caregivers.
On average, the Children’s Center serves approximately 2, unique children entering or re-entering the foster care system as they await transition to return home, stay with kin, or placement in longer-term foster care settings.
ACS is seeking an outstanding candidate to serve as a Social Work Associate for the Nicholas Scoppetta Children’s Center (NSCC) within the First Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
Under supervision of the Deputy Director of the Social Work Department, the Social Work Associate will support the administrative needs of the Social Work Department at the Children’s Center.
Under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the Social Work Associate will provide necessary and important administrative support to the Children's Center.
The responsibilities of the Social Work Associate will include, but will not be limited to :
- Provide administrative support for the Social Work Department (SWD) which includes, the Qualified Individual Team and Children’s Center Child & Family Specialists’ (CFS).
- Maintain timely communications with service providers and the SWD to ensure surveys, assessments, and other detailed logs are completed and accurate.
- Update the SWD calendar and distribute to the team, as needed.
- Share pertinent information regarding youth at the NSCC during weekly meetings.
- Ensure equipment (e.g., laptops, screens, internet, speakers, notepads, pens, and room assignments) are secured for weekly workshops, departmental meetings, and ACS conferences.
- Complete CFS assignment log and New Arrival log daily and notify CFS’ via email of their daily assignments.
- Maintain accurate and even distribution of cases among CFS staff.
- Document submission and lateness of CFS’ Status Reports (SR), progress notes, and clinical referrals in assignment logs daily.
- Provide weekly notification of outstanding SRs to CFS.
- Ensure initial progress notes are uploaded into Shared Drive for newly arriving child / ren.
- Support Community Coordinator in maintaining and recording timesheets of Social Work Interns.
- Monitor the Replacement Mailbox for Return to LDSS referrals, and ensure complete packages are assigned to CFS' via email within 1-2 days of package arrival.
- Update replacement data tracking system for referrals that are received, assigned, processed or rejected.

1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and / or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
