The Assistant Director is a full-time, 12-month Administrative Professional position in the Native American Cultural Center (NACC), a unit within the Student Diversity Programs and Services (SDPS) cluster and a department within the Office for Inclusive Excellence.
The Assistant Director shares in providing leadership for the mission of NACC through the initiation, development, administration, supervision, and evaluation of programs and services.
The position is responsible for supervising, advising, training, and guiding FTE and student staff, individual students, and student groups providing appropriate support and resources.
The Assistant Director provides leadership in the development and implementation of education and outreach programming on social justice issues, with a specific focus on issues impacting Native American, American Indian, First Nations, and Alaskan Native communities.
Knowledge of and experience with educational programming from an intersectional framework is a core component of this position.
In addition, this position will actively embrace and role model Colorado State Universitys Principles of Community (Inclusion, Integrity, Respect, Service, Social Justice).
The Assistant Director is a direct report to the Director of NACC, assuming leadership responsibilities and delegated decision-making authority for all department operations in the absence of the Director.
Some evening and weekend work hours dependent on program and event offerings or to best meet the needs of our students. Required Job Qualifications
- Bachelors degree and at least two years experience of full-time experience working with college students and / or helping young adults prepare for college.
- Demonstrate understanding of the diverse and intersectional needs and concerns of Native American, Alaskan Native, First Nations and multiracial / multicultural college students and communities.
- One year experience supervising staff, including student staff, full-time and / or part-time staff.
- Demonstrated experience with coordinating, planning, facilitating and evaluating cultural / educational programming and curriculum..
- Must have a valid drivers license or the ability to obtain a drivers license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
Preferred Job Qualifications
- Masters degree or degree in progress in Student Affairs, Sociology, Social Work, Native American, Ethnic Studies or related area, completed by start date.
- At least two years of full-time experience working directly with college students to support student success.
- Experience with personnel management including coordinating, hiring, training and supervision of full-time professional staff and student staff.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating and planning college student success and retention initiatives for Native American, Alaskan Native, First Nations and multiracial / multiethnic college students and / or other historically underrepresented college student populations.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with college students related to the personal engagement of dynamics of power, privilege, and / or oppression across multiple identities race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class, disability, religion, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining effective collaborative relationships with individuals and organizations across identities in order to support student success and / or shared outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience with data collection, creating reports, assessment, and developing / implementing learning outcomes.

Essential Duties Job Duty Category Supervision & Leadership Duty / Responsibility
- Using identity conscious supervision practices, supervise, coach, hire, train and evaluate 1 full-time Coordinator responsible for various projects including oversight of NACCs mentoring program.
- Using equity-focused practices, provide visioning, leadership, and oversight for NACCs hiring practices, training practices, evaluation procedures, onboarding and offboarding for a variety of student staff / student leader positions.
- Provide leadership for the ongoing development of NACCs mission, vision, and purpose, and help co-lead the resulting practices and philosophies.
- Directly and indirectly supervise, hire, and evaluate 10 student staff using identity conscious supervision practices.
- Lead staff through sensitive, difficult, and complex student concerns that involve mental health, financial pressures, bias-related situations, family obligations and school / work / family balance and other challenges, which require professional care, problem-solving, empathy, and communication skills to work with faculty, students, families, and community partners to help resolve multifaceted issues.

- Management and oversight of NACCs community space ensuring the space is organized, welcoming, and inclusive of the diverse and intersectional Native American, Alaskan Native, First Nations diaspora.
- Use collaborative, student-centered philosophies to develop, plan, implement and evaluate large-scale programming for which the Assistant Director is responsible, such as Native American Heritage Month, NACCs Graduation Ceremony, etc.
- Provide oversight, vision and direction for large-scale programming assigned to supervisees, such as the full-time Coordinator and / or student staff.
- Use student-centered, collaborative, and reflexive approaches to develop, plan, implement and evaluate programming focused on identity development and exploration.

- Create, implement and evaluate comprehensive, intersectional strategies aimed at student success and retention focused on educational equity and students assets.
- Work collaboratively with campus partners to implement and evaluate student success and retention strategies.
- Indirect visioning and oversight of NACCs Mentoring Program, including hiring peer mentors, participant recruitment, and learning outcome evaluation.
- Build individual rapport with a wide variety of students with diverse identities and lived experiences, and maintain relationships with students over a period of time.
